I currently have the Samsung Syncmaster (23'' LED) Monitor that I use when I am at home for my m11x. I like widescreen hi-res feel of it. If your monitor runs 1080p then I would definitely insist on using it for the m11x. In most games when you run in 1080p it does not hinder the fps at least with mine. I like the larger screen when I am not moving about and the better image.

    **edit I have an R1**

The best way to answer that question for yourself is to waiting and see if you feel the M11x alone works for you. If you later find yourself needing the extra desktop space then pull the trigger on a decent monitor.

Currently there is a scaling issue with the drivers on external displays which means you have to play games at resolution of 1080P or 720P, unless you don't mind playing with a tiny centered screen. Some games you can play in 1080p but anything remotely demanding will drop you to well below 30FPS.

I connect mine to 32" Samsung HDTV and it looks great at 1280x720. Nice to have that option when at home.
I have to disagree with the earlier poster though. 1080p hits most newer games hard in th FPS especially if you want settings you play at on native res or lower.

I actually have my dad's old VGA 1024 resolution, non-HDCP compliant 1st gen LCD from way back in 2003. :) Figured I'd use it to test out my R1's VGA port. Only time I ever really hooked it up to my 40" HDTV was for some hi res internet browsing, but I've never tried gaming on it yet. I didn't want to strain the 335M card.

An 11" screen is definitely not ideal for gaming. I hooked mine up to a 22" LCD TV in my dorm and it's been working for me.

I use my 32" 1080p HDTV Samsung sometimes, the laptop is fine, I´m used to it, but sometimes I use my tv for extended desktop, or just the screen, I played Bioshock at 1080p with the same settings, all maxed out, and plays perfect, but for some reason the colors are washed out, not only the game, the whole experience, I guess is because the laptops screen is LED while the tv is LCD, or I dunno, but looks less colorful....

I use my TV for the Wii, PS3 and 360...

I got my m11x about two months ago. I have a 19" samsung that I was planning on hooking the m11x to, but, I still haven't hooked it up. The m11x screen alone has been working fine for me: gaming, (mostly Oblivion, and HL2), surfing the net, and using MS Word.
