I've came across this site Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866MHz PnP Memory Kit For Notebooks - Sandy Bridge Notebooks Get HyperX Treatment - Legit Reviews which tells that the 1600mHz and 1833mHz memory is compatible with the sandy bridge processors. The test machine was Asus K53 with the i5-2520m and it worked although according to the intel website it only supports DDR3-1066/1333. Now my question is:
    1) Will this work on the m11x also? Im using the i7 version
    2) Will there be a substantial gain from this upgrade?

    Thanks in advance :D

if you are talking about "gaming fps gain" then i will say no, amusing you have a m11x r2 or 3.

I don't know about the R3, but the R2 wont utilize those speeds and will downclock it.

However, there have been a few threads about ram and ram is a huge bottleneck when OC. I plan on getting this ram soon so I know for a fact that when I OC the ram won't be my bottleneck.

So in reality you could see a substantial performance in processing power if you planning to OC.

The only place you would "notice" a difference would be when gaming on the intergrated gfx. this is because the intergrated gfx uses system RAM and the higher speeds of the PNP RAM would help out a bit in that area.

Other than that i cant see it making a noticable difference in anything else you do. basically saying... not woth the extra cash unless you are already looking to upgrade to a larger set or RAM.

@tecrp7 i think this product is targeted to the sandy bridge platform and according to the article the ram was running at 1833mHz.
@some guy i see, that will be useful if im conserving battery for example but ur right, maybe the price is not worth it unless im gonna upgrade to a larger set of ram. thanks for the input guys :D

Some Guy. I THINK but Im not sure, the sandy bridge is using the 2gb of video ram. At least cpu-z is showing it is, and Im not noticing missing memory in my system specs.

ALso I thought the Sandy Bridge needed specific versions of the Sandy Bridge mobile processor in order to do those speeds? And a bios to support, and I think you had to run Intels plugin in windows to make it "up" the clock rate inside windows? I mean the XMP version. Not sure what the reviewer was using.

    Extreme Memory

"For SB mobile cpus some run 1600 some do not, check intel's page for that product before you buy. I believe a 2630QM will run 1600mhz ram but am not certain."

However, this guy mentions running it in a M18.... But that is using a more advanced sandy bridge setup. (See feedback)

    Nope. http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/578120-can-r3-use-hyperx-its-potential-like-m17.html

Maybe ask Dell to mod the m11 bios to support. Start a request on their forums or something?
