I was just wondering how often people totally shut down there laptops ? Most of the time I just close the lid and put it to sleep .

May be a really dumb question. but what the hell .

I am one to just shut the lid and let it sleep.

I do not plan on changing this habit when my R2 arrives.

I just shut down mine all the time.
Start up and shut down time are real fast.

I close the lid mostly and not even sleep it. Sometimes I don't do anything.

Not very often, many times I dont even shut it down because I leave it downloading overnight :)

I do restart it every week or so for updates and patches, I admit windows 7 is pretty stable

I do this. I'm not keen on leaving mine on all the time, I want to prolong the life of mine for as long as possible

Since I switched to an SSD I changed the settings to just shut her down when I close the lid.

Boot time is about the same as waking up from sleep now.

One thing I have never understood is why Apple has immediate resume figured out but they stand alone with it?
It may be my favorite Mac feature.

I shut down both my M17x and my M11x. To prolong the life of the computer, you need to shut it down. I have a garbage Lenova Thinkpad that work gave me (engineering) and when it sleeps, it doesn't like to wake up (similar to my 14 yr old son, lol). I won't risk that with my Alienwares.
