Now how can I get it to last longer than a year? I had my original battery replaced just before my warranty ended, a little over a year ago. The replacement is on it's last legs, with a full lifetime of less than 2 hours. That's with BT off, WiFi on, word processing/internet browsing, 80% brightness. BatteryBar tells me it has a max capacity of 45,200 mWh, which is 30% down from 64,500 mWh when it was new. I plan to use this computer for as long as it'll work, and I anticipate the battery will go first. I'm wondering if there will still be a replacement battery 1 year from now...

I usually charge the battery to 60% and then throw it in a sealed bag, blow some hot air and seal it and put it in the fridge, keeps its lasting more than few years but this is for laptops that get used as a desktop replacement, as such plugged in 99% on the times.

M11x has a different situation and obviously this cannot be done. Not sure what else you can do, other than to keep laptop as cool as possible as heat also kills battery life.

Which M11x revision do you own?

You should be able to turn on/off the battery by pressing Fn+F2, do this when your battery is near 100% charge to improve the life time of the battery. I think the R3 does it automatically though, so Fn+F2 wouldn't do anything.

well mine is at 19% wear level, i got it in the first month R3 gone on sale, whatever old that makes it, just kept on charger whenever I'm within range of a socket, if i do web browsing or something not demanding, i set the power management to power saver and it lasts around 4-5 hours on lowest backlight, which is enough. Gaming drains its massively, dies in under an hour, then again it is really unhealthy for the battery to constantly discharge it like that...

I did not fridge it or anything, almost every day it goes into my backpack and our sometimes a few times per day, it usually stays on charger unless i go to cafe or something etc. plus i don't discharge it beyond 30%.

Gave my old asus EEE laptop to my aunt, she uses it on battery a lot, i set it to go sleep at 40% it still lasts good few hours on battery which is after around 5 years of use... Frankly i don't get how badly people must abuse the battery to get it wear out too much in a year...

    +1

plus I must be the luckiest M11x owner, because I've been using my R1 everyday for 2.5 years now and I still get almost 6 hours of battery with only 12% battery wear, though I have to say that I rarely let it go under 30% charge.

Are there any recommended shops to buy batteries from in the UK? I looked on the dell website and they dont seem to provide any...

I have found some through googling ranging from 40 to 50£ however as with any battery issue, im afraid of receiving a used one or something. considering most of these online stores seem to be independent, it just increases my paranoia. would appreciate any tips on sites!
