Just picked up my M11x R1 last night, Windows updates has ran overnight and now I an installing nVidia system tools (Performance Monitor, OC'ing tool)

I installed my game of choice (City of Heroes) and ran around a bit. My first impression is that while the screen is small, its doesn't hinder me, even in a MMO where you need to lot of space for a UI. I can only run at recommended settings, which kinda sucks, maybe I will get a little more out of the game once I overclock my GPU.

I haven't been in BIOS yet, so I think the CPU (SU7300) is still at the stock speed, so I think I will OC that too...

Congratulations on your first Alien! There's a lot of optimization tips and little bits of soft (or hard) mods on these forums that can take your machine as far as it can go. Enjoy!

Yup here's how to OC both:
The r1 isn't as much fun to overclock since the CPU is pretty much locked down but there are some things to do to get better performance. To overclock the CPU, while the laptop is booting and you see the alienhead logo press f12. This gets you into the boot menu, go down to enter setup, it's at the bottom, and press enter. In the next menu tap the arrow key to the right to the advanced tab and scroll down to OVERCLOCK. It should say disabled. Press enter and switch it to enabled. Then press f10 to save configuration. It boosts your CPU output to 1.6ghz.

You can also overclock the gpu too, I use msi afterburner because it's simple and easy to understand. To use it google it, download and install it. Open it up and you see 3 bars to adjust to your hearts content to overclock the gpu. I recommend 550/1350/875 for best results but it may or may not work for you, if not bring the bars down slowly 5 to 10 MHz at a time and test it. You can test it with the other program that comes with msi afterburner, it's called kombustor. Use the gpu burn in option to test your overclock. If the numbers on the right clock down to 405/324/810 or something similar, you went to far, reboot your cOmputer and try a lower overclock. Hope this helps goodluck!

no the modded bios just lets you overclock more (like 10-15 points more) you can OC the gpu without it no problem
