    Hello everyone,

I finally received my R3 and I must say I really like it. There are some things I'd like to fix though.

    1. I didnt find any way to control the fan yet, is there one? My temps are about 50°C when surfing/iddling and the fan would kick in occasionally. I installed the latest BIOS from dell but didn't find any ways to edit the tables.

In games it's something else. The fan has two modes basically : quite loud (which is normal) and absolutely insane. The CG will go up to 75°C during Portal 2 or Skyrim, is that normal?

Would a netbook cooling pad help?
If I open it and apply some thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, will this void my waranty? (I've some experience with hardware so I'm not really worried to screw things up).

    2. AlienFX is awesome but I think I have a bug with the little alien head (bellow the screen). Some colors just won't work. It's green when I pick yellow and blue-ish when I choose white (white is basically impossible to acheive). Is this a sufficient to call the support and get a tech fix it? Or is it normal?

    3. Lastly, I read a lot of topics on hinge issues and it looks like the R3 is spared. Did anyone have actual problems with the R3 in the long run? I'm crossing my fingers.

    Thanks

    Alex

i have an r2 but all i can comment on is i believe the fan speeds are fixed, even on the diagnostic tests there are just 2 speeds and off...

mine hits 70s when gaming too, so i dont think it should be too much to be concerned about, the thermal cutout is in the 90s -100s

The Software HWINFO64 can do it , but it not a good idea to lower the fan.

    Yes

Yes but it would still sound like an hairdryer

here a video how to do it
Alienware M11x Teardown **READ SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO REPLACING PARTS** (Official Video) - YouTube

I'll do this mod next week too
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/585720-m11x-r1-heatsink-mod.html

When you close the lid, use the middle of the panel and you won't hurt the hinge.

The Fan blow cuz the video card is not , and not cuz the cpu is hot. I'll do a megapost next week with temp before and after the mod.
I'll be using copper shim on the gpu. I can't wait

The colors on the R3 is normal. Mine is white but shows a light blue as well as how the green goes. Only happens on the alien head power button, i guess
