Is there a thin film of plastic over the strip that runs through the power button (where the blue wifi indicator is displayed)? Also it's a bit wobbly when on a hard surface...when i push down on the right palm rest it wobbles..anyone else with this?

Yikes. First I've read of this. The wobble thing would be an instant return for me.
-
@duck
Yes there is a small film, just take it off then its shiney black under.
Dont have the wobble though... -
Do you have all 4 of the rubber pads on the bottom? The two in the back are very small.
-
Mine has the wobble when I press on the right palm rest.
Glad to know there is a film covering the light strip. Looks terrible now. I'll pull it off.
My hinges are definitely not symmetrical.
The battery light on the bottom doesnt seem to do anything. -
I thought mine had a wobble too, it wobbled on a certain part of my desk. Every where else I tried it was fine. I think it was a slight imperfection in the surface of my desk. Try it on other surfaces too.

Don't mean to hijack the thread... but does anone else have the audio jack being not as tight to the headphone adapter? Its not loose, but doesn't give the reassuring snap the r1 did..

tried tightening the screws...still have the wobble...guess I'll be giving tech support a call tomorrow :/
-
Why call tech support? I'd just return the unit rather than deal with a lemon. It's not like you bought a refurbished unit.
-
It could be simple as the bottom panel (which has 3 rubbers out of 4) that comes off, not being flushed.
If that's the case, calling it a lemon is bit extreme. -
I have 4 rubbers on the bottom of the unit. interestingly it only wobbles when the lid is open...hinges look fine to me with uniform gaps.
If I return it won't there be a 15% restocking fee? -
I know it has 4 rubbers in total bud. I was saying the panel that comes off has 3 rubbers on it itself, so just replacing that just might solve the issue.
If it's something that can be easily fixed, don't take extreme measure and return it. As far as returning it/restocking fee goes, it really depends on what state you are from, atleast that was the case in the past. -
They have no reason to charge you a restocking fee as they sent you a laptop that wasn't built right in the first place. You bought it as new, so it should be built with a quality that resembles a new laptop.
Don't be afraid to return because of restocking fee, because it's not your fault that you got the laptop that you got. It just a matter of how you communicate to the resolution expert. -

wobble fixed! one of the screws was put in on an angle and not flush with the case...thanks for all the replies guys!
-
so much for lemon huh? Good to hear it was fixed btw.

Boy,
All of these posts: hinge problems, cover hits keypad, driver problems, uncalibrated screens, overheating power adapter, and now a wobbly unit due to an incorrect screw placement, not sure I want to buy one of these bad boys until all of the problems are fixed. Seems this went to production too quickly! For $1000+, it should have higher quality. But it does seem like Dell is quickly addressing many of these problems (unlike alienware's poor customer service). I'm still on the fence; buy or no buy ! -
I guess you haven't bought a really expensive laptop in your life. Not saying the build quality should be crap, but 1k+ isn't exactly spending alot on a laptop.
My hinges aren't even, and I'll live w/ it. I wasn't exactly expecting a perfection from Dell. Just make sure you buy 3+ yrs of warranty and it will do you good in time when you buy any dell product. -
Oh and one thing I do carefully look at would be the screen quality/dead pixel problems since I'll be mostly looking at that when I'm using it.
Just jump in, and enjoy is what I can tell you. All these problems that isn't exactly broken, you will careless about it in time as long as it doesnt break.
Just got my R2...issue
