Hey I just got my Alienware r-1 scratch and dent yesterday. I figured I would post my experience for others out there hesitant on the Dell Outlet.

    First off the specs:
    Price before tax - $527.20
    Grand Total - $563.31
    4 gigs of RAM
    500 gig HD
    Bluetooth
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor SU7300

So I have had my eye on the m11x since it was first announced, never bought one because of the hinge issues...but then I heard Dell was taking action on it and decided to pull the trigger on one. Looked at the outlet, got a 20% off coupon from slickdeals.net and found this one "Scratch and Dent". I was wary at first since there are an equal amount of horror stories and good experiences from customers on the outlet.

After careful examination, there is only one tiny pin sized nick on the right side of the laptop base, other than that the laptop is in pristine shape. I barely even noticed it! Buying brand new with this config is 824 before tax, so I saved 300 dollars from taking a chance on the outlet. Not for everyone I suppose but I worked out for me.

Been using it all day today with no issues at all! Thanks notebookreview.com

you can tell within windows, default windows 7 driver loads if bluetooth is in, you will most likely see a blue "bluetooth" icon at the taskbar area, looks almost like scissors within a blue oval

I got mine 2 days ago......R1 "scratch and dent" SU7300 4gigs 160gb HDD bluetooth etc for $440. Arrived in pristine condition.

Sounds great, right? Well....I tried the advertised "overclock" feature in the bios and it all went to crap. The computer turned off after I saved and exited the bios then turned back on/rebooted itself and locked up on windows loading.

After disabling the "overclock" feature in the bios, windows attempted startup recovery which locked up also. Finally, I cold booted and made sure overclock was off and told Windows it couldn't do start up recovery and it booted into Windows.

I call useless Dell crapnician support and the guy basically laughed at me and said "Oh, so sorry Dell doesn't support overclock features".

Now I know what "scratch and dent" really means...

Sad thing is...I like the idea of the M11x when it was briefly working well and tonight the sale ends so if I want to return and replace it I pay 20% more since Dell doesn't think it is a major issue after talking to lame tech support.

You shouldn't of said you overclocked it :p A tech would of fixed it for free.

Remember the disclaimer in the overclock thread mentioning that it isn't covered should of been a clear indicator :p

Yeah....I realized my fatal mistake *immediately* after I said it over the phone...eh, either way I wasn't going to lie about something they claimed to provide. Thus, despite Dell's disclaimer to the contrary, there is something to be said about their previous advertising of the ability of the processor to overclock. Some vague thought bubbles of express warranties and/or implied warranties of fitness for a particular purpose ("overclock" provided by Dell in bios to "overclock" as advertised) floating in my mind.

Either way, I am a tax attorney not a consumer protection/products liability attorney, so I guess I just fell victim to the classic "buyer beware".
