    Hi,

Just got an M11x R2 and i love it!

but theres a few minor issues....

-lid doesnt close flush with main body (sticks over the right side about 1.5mm)
-the laptop isnt perfectly flat at the base; wobbles diagonally like an old chair about 1-2mm
-under the spacebar, the light furthest to the right is much dimmer than the others (not sure if its just supposed to be like this)

Please advise...Im in canada btw so not sure how warranty works

also, does anyone have recommendations for a matt screen protector that is perfect for m11x?

The difference in brightness of the lights is normal, and mine also sticks over the right side a slight amount, so I suspect that's normal. That it wobbles is worth calling support over, though.

As for the screen protector, do a search because there is a large thread of reviews :)

thanks for the help, any idea how i go about doing that? should I call?
Im not even sure what they can do about the wobbling....seems like the entire computer based is warped very slightly.

and, yea I got lazy to search through, just wanted a couple to choose from not entire threads :p but yea I'll look

The first two are reason enough to call Dell.

Wobbly base is likely a screw not seated properly in bottom access plate. Carefully check each of the screws. Think there are 8 of them.

so no one else has the right most spacebar light dimmer?

I live in canada, how do you think dell will deal with this? I really have no experience with warranties much less dell.

    thanks

This is normal and expected. On all of the current AW systems, you will find some keys do not have complete coverage. Each key does not have its own light. :(

For the other issues, if you are not satisfied, call support. You have a right to 100% satisfaction - on any purchase.

For what it's worth my spacebar is evenly lit with every single color. The spacebar has nothing to do with the phenomenon we all see with certain colors along the left edge of the keyboard.

They charge you premium price for the laptop (I call it Alienware Tax) and you have the right to complain any detail that you are unsatisfied. We should demand premium quality from Dell to force them to raise quality control over their lines of products.

My spacebar is evenly lit. The alien head is slightly brighter than the keyboard.

I'm interested about this evenly lit spacebar thing. Do most M11x's have evenly lit spacebars? The back lighting on my keyboard got dimmer after I had my screen replaced. I got a new keyboard and, while it is brighter, the keys still aren't evenly lit. I know unevenly lit keys on the left side seems to be normal, but my spacebar is also unevenly lit. Since this problem exhibited itself on two different keyboards, I wonder if there's something else wrong.

Interesting that an LCD assembly replacement could have an impact on keyboard backlighting. I'm not sure how the two could be related unless there's the new panel is drawing more power. Even that theory sounds improbable though.

I don't think the two are related either, I think the tech was too rough with the keyboard when he replaced the screen and broke some of the backlighting when he put the keyboard back in. The new replacement was better, but still dim around the left side and spacebar, worse than I remember my original keyboard being.

If you have a decent camera (and a tripod!) then see if you can take any decent photos to illustrate how dim it is.

Have you checked to see if "Dim Lighting Zones" us turned on? Right-click on your AlienFX alien head in the systray.

Unfortunately I don't have a decent camera and tripod, but the picture below kind of illustrates the dimness of my spacebar. Is this normal? I remember my original keyboard backlighting being a lot more uniform.

if anyone else has the same problem about wobble at the base, try taking the bottom completely off and then screwing all the screws in a star pattern, not fully tightening until all screws are screwed in (like putting on a car rim) This may not have been the solution, but I did it, and no more wobbles.

I guess the keyboard isnt a big deal to me. I'd rather just leave it then have a technician hack away at my laptop

Yeah, there have been a couple of owners report that their access plate had screws that weren't seated properly.

Have fun with that. You'll be doing it until you get tired of them sending you new ones that light the exact same way.
