    yup its clearance for the hinge barrel. 1-2 mm should be fine andmine ends at where the hinges start, (as far as i can see from my hinge,)

    Sounds like mine is exactly like squeak described too. Slight gap at the middle and it ends where the hinges start when moving outwards. So nothing to worry about.
