    Hello,

I have an M11X R2 with i5 Processor. Is the GT335M soldered in? I read that it is indeed MXM, but can't find anything stating whether or not it is soldered in. I found a 580M for sale, while a little pricey, it would be an excellent upgrade. Not sure if it would make much difference though being that I only have the i5.

    Thanks,
    Koomdin

Looking for a new 17" and probably the 7970M, keeping the M11X for travel and just hoping I might be able to upgrade. Thanks for the info though, it works extremely well, ecspecially considering the size and price. Is the 540M in the R3 much of an upgrade?

    Thanks Again

The 580M is as big as the entire motherboard of the M11x ;)

The 540M is a good upgrade comes with higher clocks more shaders and DirectX11 and pair that with the newer sandy bridge CPU's it could be a good upgrade but it is much more worthwhile going from R1 to R3.

    540M is overclocked.

    Yiddo,

Thanks for the info, definetely looks like a better option as you said to go with the R3. Based on the specs, I am thinking that the 540M must perform much better than the 335M. I will have to look up the benchmarks etc... I checked into the MXM standard and both the 335M and the 580M were showing MXM 3.0, so one would assume the same form factor, so much for that logic. Thanks again and I will be looking up some specs to justify an upgrade. I am in the Market for a 17" gamer with the 7970M, so probably going to end up just keeping the R2 for now as it does pretty much everything I ask it to and the size vs. performance is outstanding.

    Here's stock 540M, don't mind the ROG theme :p

The pixel & texture fillrate don't seem right though... It was idle at the time (using integrated), maybe downclocked? iono.

True, you would be better off having both an R2 and a desktop replacement I couldn't live without either and need both not one or the other and if it means you either upgrading to the R3 or getting the 7970M its an easy choice ;)

Yeah those pixel fillrates are wrong the 540M matches the texture fills.

Couldn't get my clocks down at the time of posting. Shouldn't you be on a desktop forum somewhere instead of trolling people's post.

I considered just upgrading the M11x to R3, but I want some real graphics power. I am planning on getting a projector and a 120" screen, so I think the upgraded graphics are a must. The R3 upgrade won't be far behind though!

A projector doesnt matter if its making a 10 inch screen or a 300 inch screen.

I have a sony 1080p LCD projector, it runs on my m11xr1 perfect running darksiders on pretty high settings.

Just remember, most projectors are just 3 inch LCD panels that light shines into and then through a lens to focus it.

You can actually build your own from fresnal lenses, a magnifying glass, a small lcd, and a light bulb.
