    Is my mobo a goner?

    Hey all,

I'd like some help if I may. I was doing a deep cleaning of the fan internals. You have to take off the mobo for that. I've replaced thermal goo off the cpu and gpu so I thought nothing of this. Lo and behold, the screw holding the minipcie to the chasis was too tight and wearing when I tried to unscrew. (I'd had to do this before) I inched the mobo, now unscrewed except for the wifi card, out of the chasis. It came out, the mobo and minipcie card apparently fine once again. I then opened up the fan to reveal a horde of dust bunnies, easy enough, somewhat rewarding to have seen and cleaned. I put everything back together, and, hearing a clink upon getting up, looked down questionably. No, not a screw, a whatchacallit. Number PD18 on the board (betwen the sata hub and minipcie ports, r2) had come off after some mindless alienware worker had jinxed my laptop's life with the awkwardly tight screw on the wifi card.

To make the story shorter, that piece is off. I might try soldering it back on, in the direction and fashion as the other similar parts on its mobo. But the laptop will not as much as turn a light on or spin its fan. So, is this the end for my mobo? Its ironic that now, after precise and slow turning, the screw is actually off the wifi card and the card tucked away from the chasis for the first time in its life. But, I ask, whoever might he able to answer, does this piece spell the end for the mobo, ensuring my paranoia of planned obsolesence, or will it go back on in some way to redo my errors?

And thank you for all and any replies, it's been a... fun... experience with alienware.

Soldering it should do the trick, unless there's deeper damage to the board.

    Hello,
I'd like to update that I've soldered the piece back on and once again have a working laptop.
