I was wondering if it was possible to change the Core i7-2617M to a Core i7-2649M. From what i have seen they both use the same sockets.

Are the M11x R3 CPUs even socketed?
The CPUs on the M11x R1 and M11x R2 were soldered on to the motherboard, and not replaceable. I would be surprised if that somehow changed for the M11x R3, considering that sockets add size to the internal motherboard design. -
Yeah, as well as the wattage issues, I don't think the cpu is replaceable by itself, it requires a full motherboard swap.
