Just received M11x R3 refurb today.

Computer looks to be in good shape but as usual things are not right with something

Went to Best Buy and purchased a USB flash drive 16 gb. Got home and low and behold I do not have Alienware respawn and or Dell Datasafe installed on my computer! So I can not make a hdd image.

Tried to install them both from links on this forum but system won't let me because I do not have a Windows Recovery Environment! Spent the least 2 hours of my life jacking with it and I am ready to scream.

This kind of crap makes me nuts! Now I must go for vanilla starbucks drink so I don't make a hole in my apt wall with my fist : )

    Any ideas?

PS - Yes i have the separate partition that looked to have been created with a factory.wim image visible

Yes, I just find it ridiculous they would set up a partition on the drive and fail to install the software leaving the customer no recourse other than a fresh install of Windows.

This kind of lack of attention to detail is inexcusable.

I hear ya but i personally dont even bother with OEM type recoveries anyway.

Just do a fresh clean install with the most updated drivers. then install all your favorive programs and config your settings. then make a image with Acronis or similar software and your rock solid! :)

Push F8 at boot. Then select repair. It might ask what type of keyboard you are using and your user name and password if you have one. Then at the bottom of the next screen it will say something like Dell Image Recovery. Select that and it will restore your computer to factory settings. I don't know if they even put Dell DataSafe or Alien Respawn on the computers anymore.

    Thank you!

Is there a way I could put that on my 16gb USB flash? I am looking to get a SSD drive soon : D

Sorry, I've always done fresh installs of Windows so I'm not sure if the Dell factory image can be transferred to a usb stick and used in that manner. Hopefully someone else knows.

    Ok thank you anyway.

Oddly enough I had the same Firewire port driver issue on this m11x R3 I have now that I did on the R1 I sent back.

Oddly enough after going into BIOS and disabling the port upon reboot it installed the driver correctly? This is after disabling the port! I don't get it.
