My Conclusion: The M11xR2 Optimus drivers are the same as any other Optimus driver (newest technically being 256.15). Running any Optimus driver on a Hybrid Graphics* notebook with a compatible dGPU*, once configured properly, results in Optimus semi-working with an ugly non-removable overlay. It also may have issues powering the dGPU down properly resulting in shorter battery life.*
*Nvidia Hybrid Graphics: The technology name given to any notebook that has both an Intel iGPU and Nvidia dGPU.
*Optimus compatible dGPUs: GeForce 200M, 300M and Fermi GPUs.
*Initial reports claim that due to the the Nvidia part not powering down properly battery life was reduced. This may have been based on the assumption that the Nvidia part appearing under device manager at all times means it is on. Extra testing shows load and power draw reducing when the Nvidia part is not running. AFAIK the Nvidia part never disappears from Device Manager on standard Optimus notebooks. (Would love more confirmation on this.)
"Optimus on Hybrid Graphics" capable notebooks: M11xR1 (R2 has Optimus), Vaio Z11 (The newer VPC model Z), Asus UL30/50/80VT. All of these Hybrid Graphics notebooks seem to show the same issues when running Optimus drivers. -
ooh .. for some reason I thought they installed a different version of the optimus drivers
Installing optimus on old m11x?
