I have a m11x and I would like to install my software (office, games...) on it wo buying an external drive. I tried networking them with my hp laptop with no success. Do I need a transfer USB, FireWire, or just buy the external? Sorry for the dumb ?.

You could try loading your stuff on a thumb drive or external drive and use that it should work for anything that does not require a bootable disc.

I recommend buying an external since eventually you will have to buy one anyways :D

You *can* setup you laptop to use the other DVD drive over the network (you will have to make sure both laptops / (laptop + desktop) can see each other and the drive itself has been shared).

I tried this with my main pc and the M11x and tbh the results were mixed. It worked fine for some games but not for others. Also games that require a disk cheque initially won't work as the drive is not seen as a DVD drive by windows (it is seen as a networked HD).

In the end I paid the £39.99 and got a Samsung external DVD drive and havn't looked back.

Thanks. Do u guys download games from a site or do you by the software? If u have the software, don't they require the disc to run? So you have to have the external.

I either use Steam for my games. The few games I do have on disc either work with online activation / don't require disc check or can be "tweaked" to not require the disc check*.

*I am NOT on about pirating.

TBH for most new games Steam is the way to go (especially with the M11x). Not only is it convinient you often get the best deal.

I you don't opt for the external, another alternative to networking a cd drive is making image files of discs on another computer, copying them over, and mounting them as a virtual cd drive. Not the most convenient, but if you only need it for a few things, perhaps worth it.
