Hey guys, I bought an M11x off ebay and the nameplate is personalized...
So I'm trying to get a new nameplate.
Any idea how I can achieve this?

You could always make one yourself. Just buy an aluminum sheet and cut it appropriately. Then you can engrave your name on it if you wish. I bought my m11x from best buy so I just have the m11x on the bottom. Doesn't bother me at all though :-D

They messed up my name plate, left off half of my last name, but I don't care so much.

That happened to me too, but Dell sent me a replacement right away. The print quality and the font kinda sucks on the new one though! Like they used a smaller, less "alien" looking type. I have the original, I should take a few shots and upload them to the board for comparison.

I remember seeing a thread in the M11x forum where people with messed up nameplates were getting new ones sent to them by Dell/AW. Use the search if you like, it sounded quite easy to get a corrected one very quickly.

Hey, if you remove the nameplate, is there open plastic underneath that leads to the heatsink or is it closed plastic underneath?

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say there's plastic underneath; otherwise dust would get inside too easily.

you can get a new nameplate by dell, just request it

I got a new nameplate no charge, but yes the font is different from the factory, but same plate design

Someone posted that earlier and hasn't posted a pic, when I get home I can make a pic if he doesn't by then

Umm... the baseplate is metallic. Not only is is solid underneath, but there is half an alien head engraved there (most will never see it).

Anyway, I'm in the "bought it at Best Buy" group and so I don't know if Dell will be so willing to customize it. It would have made more sense to make it a by-mail offer for retail customers in the first place and not include a plate at all.

To those who said they would post some pictures of the replacement, just wondering if you had the chance to?

And other than emailing them, is there any better way to contact them?

Our original M11x R2 nameplate was also truncated by a few characters... Dell did quickly send a replacement with corrected naming, but as others have commented, the quality on the laser/etch was noticeably worse on the replacement, than the one the M11x R2 shipped with originally... too bad...

As you can see, the alien lettering is different. I figured out how to take pictures on the new one lol so the quality looks better
