    Hi Guys,

After receiving my R2 last Friday, and spending the weekend setting up all my software and transferring stuff from my older pcs, I must say that I am totally impressed with my Alienware.

I mean, I truly believe that opinions from owndership are very subjective since we all have different expectations. I have spent the last 7 months researching different laptops, and even purchased and returned quite a few. I guess when I first started looking for a laptop, I wanted something that was all powerful with little compromises, and as such I looked at the larger 17 inch ones like Asus G73, Alienware 17 and the HP Envy 17. Fortunately for me, for each of these laptops that I purchased, each one came with their defects or deficiencies and I had to return them.

    1) Asus returned due to GPU issues(2 units)
    2) HP Envy 17 returned due to excessive heat issues that actually warped the chassis and caused the body to creak.
    3) ALienware 17, a good laptop but was so shockingly heavy

I was almost giving up hope on finding the perfect laptop for me until I remembered about the m11x which I had read about in January. However, I did not consider it than as my requirements were abit different, and I was looking for it to have i7 multi-core threading and Optimus generic driver supportable. I wanted to use the m11x not only for gaming but for work related tasks too and the applications I use will benefit from the better CPU and multi-threading capabilities of the i-Cores. The previous m11x did not have the i-cores than. However, as timing would have it, the revision of the m11x popped up just after I decided to return the Envy, and since it had both things I was looking for now, and I immediately jumped on it. :)

Well, after playing with it the last three days, I must say that I am totally extremely happy with my purchase decision. I am jealous of the people who made the choice to buy this machine when it was first released in Febuary as they have had almost half a year of happiness and amazement before me..hehe. I must agree that although the m11x is not as powerful as the previous 17 inch laptop category that I was looking at, it is and will be able to fulfill both my work and gaming needs in one tiny package. PLus, none of the powerful 17 inches could last more than barely an hour off the grid.... I mean, the 'sacrifice' I pay for not having the most powerful large mobile gaming machine is far FAR out-weighed by the m11x's fantastic portability. I find myself using the laptop much more often than ever before, and in many places I never imagined possible! And, in my work station set-up, I cannot even tell I am using a 'net-book' like device as I attach my m11x to two large external monitors with an external keyboard. When I go out, I just unplug the unit, pop it into a tiny carrier, and I bring my 'Super Computer' anywhere! I guess, my days of having a large laptop are over! It does not even look silly like some of the other gaming machines, especially when you turn off all the lighting. I actually used it in Starbucks during a business meeting for 4 hours yesterday. It kinda resembled an IBM small thinkpad from afar. hee. My business partner was also very impressed with it. One customer actually walked over to check it out.

In all my life, I have never been as happy or impressed with a computer as I have with the m11x. Just looking at it sitting on the table, "It's just such a tiny powerhouse!", brings a warm happy feeling to me. Haha. It never fails to make me just stop in my tracks and stare at it unbelieveably. Thus the name "Atom Ant". I am sure those folks in my generation will remember this cartoon character.

I would whole heartedly recommend this laptop to all my friends who share the same needs as me.

Again, I feel very lucky to be part of this m11x community, and wonder how both the R1 and R2 owners can keep such a nice secret like this for so long  ....

I found a used R1 a few weeks ago cheap and I have to say I feel the same way about mine!

And I have NEVER been thought of as "Easy to Please".

    Have Fun!

I have R1 and agree, tho any of these ULV CPUs aren't that great for anything really CPU intensive.

BTW, seeing as you're older (Atom Ant reference ;) ) tell me you wouldn't want a nice dock station for this baby. It's all she needs. :D

you had GPU issues with asus too?

Mine was so bad the same heatsink went from the cpu --> GPU --> outer edge

so all the CPU heat was goin to GPU, and if the GPU heated it it would already be transferring heat to an already heated up heatsink

Haha, I missed this little bugger. Wonder why the networks don't revive him.

Yeah, I know. If someone working for an asian company reads this thread now, you know, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a docking product for the m11x..you can corner the market and makes lots of dough considering the amount of interest for this product. Just take a look at the top 10 most viewed notebooks listing of this forum....

The TWO G73 units I got from ASUS both had terrible issues. I understand that they normally produce reliable laptops, but after these two horrible and disappointing experiences, I would find it very hard to recommend their laptops to anyone......oh, maybe I would to my enemies..hee :p

yeah i've had 2 Z71V's that had the exact same problem occur, video card dying

In both instnaces I could remove the nvidia video card and it would boot up to windows (i could hear the windows logon sound) but of course no display at all

LOL, HP still has issues with heat dissipation? I remember my old DV4000 overheating each time I gamed for >1/4 hour since the X700 was too much for it to handle. As with Asus, I knew they always had an issue with quality, as I've handled many of their mobo's.
