It's an i5 R2. If it helps, i just bought an R1 (same GPU/HDD/RAM) for $450 delivered to Australia. My R3 was $800 inc upgrades in sig.

find out if a) there's any warranty remaining, b) if he's had the hinges replaced, c) what the battery wear levels are

Overall though, i think it's pretty decent provided the RAM is a decent brand and the HDD is 7200RPM. Do you know what wireless card it has?

No idea on any of those since it was getting late to ask. Ill ask him about that. I doubt he has warranty left or else he would've said something. Probably stock wireless card since processor is a bit low you know?

Processor (& GPU) isn't upgradeable though, WiFi card is. Just find out that stuff first - Hinges, RAM/HDD brands, and battery wear levels (he has to use HWMonitor).

If it's in good condition and like i said has 7200RPM drive & decent brand RAM then yea i think it's worth $500-550 shipped.

If he's had the hinges fixed then great, if not no problems as Dell will fix them once out of Warranty (they are very prone to breakage, it is assumed that they will at one point fail for everyone).

Oh so dell will fix them without warranty? That's good! How would I have him check battery wear on HWMonitor? Is there another alternative to do that too? What/where should he be looking for in wear lvl?

Just to re-emphasize incase my wording was misleading - Dell will only replace/repair the hinges out of warranty one time. So if he hasn't had it done then if it does break at any time you know you are still entitled to have it fixed. I'm not sure if there is a cutoff date for this though, since the M11x has been "phased out" but as far as i know they will still be honoring it. Even if they don't, the DIY epoxy fix is still apparently very successful and relatively easy to do yourself.

He just has to go to the CPUID website and download the free HWMonitor. Once installed he just opens the program, and he will see this:

As you can see, battery stats are at the bottom, mine's relatively new so the wear on my battery is still 0%. Lower number = better battery essentially.

easier to just ask what runtime he has rather than specific % - unless he is already a member here and has tools/info ;)

Eh i suppose, i guess it just depends on how much info you want and how much effort they're willing to put in. I asked the seller of my R1 all kinds of questions before i purchased, i'm just glad he was patient and accommodating.

I got the impression that he needed to pull the trigger ASAP or pass. Sorry for the bluntness!

If time remains you should get all the info you can so nothing wrong with the guidance given.

He's not sure on ram brand and he can't check since has at work. He know it's DDR3 2x 4GB 1333MHz , 320 gb 7200 rpm hard drive and wireless n card dw1520. Hinges never replaced. Can't check on battery though.

    Warranty expired back in March

edit: he says there 2 scratches on the bottom where no one can see, but otherwise in good condition everywhere else

Honestly if you can afford a bit more i would get the Sager NP6110, you can get the barebones i5 (new ivy i7 for $100 more) 8g or ram, 650m video card 500g HD from online sellers here for $832 with a PM to larry for a discount code at LPC.

It's brand new, under warranty and a huge upgrade.

If it's an R2 with the optimus graphics then i think it's a good price. If it's an R1, I would stay away from it. Upgrading those NVIDIA drivers are a pain. The ones in Dell's site do not work properly on the newer games. At least, it's what I went thru when I had my M11X R1

There's "a bit" more, and then there's $300 more. That's the difference between getting an R1 and an R3. Not to mention the m11x holds its value a bit better, it prolly weights less, has better battery and just looks better.

    It has a 1st gen i5, it's an R2.

Where can I find Larry? What do you mean by discount? For 832? I didn't buy it since he was being shady asking the other questions.
