    I Just got the C2D model and was thinking about buying an I7 version. Is the performance really worth it? I read where R2s are having the same challenges as R1 as far as game play performance. So for a should I upgrade or just be happy! Has anyone done a benchmark test comparing the two?

    Not worth the upgrade IMO. Performance difference is minimal. Better to keep the money in your pocket and spend it when/if there is a R3 with more performance improvement.

    If you're a new buyer, def go for the R2.

    If you want an upgrade to your M11x R1 that will actually make a difference in performance, then get an SSD. Your machine will feel like a new computer. Plus, the SSD will stay relevant for quite some time. You can easily move the SSD around to different systems if/when you decide to upgrade in the future.

    eh.. um.. already have a Samsung 256GB SSD..and I just bought another m11x i7.. it works fine just the boot up is a little slower than my dell XPS M1210.. and it seems as if the boot up is choppy.. I get good numbers from My samsung but It just seemed as if there should more pep out of this vs my dell.. I know the gaming is great except for black ops. but we will see.. I will just sell both the R1 M11x and the dell xps.. once I get the R2..

    The gains won't be much, considering that both revisions use the same GPU. Do you do video encoding, or other CPU heavy processes on your PC?

    Well, I went M1210 (T5600) M11xR1 (SU7300) -->M11xR2 (i7 640um)

    The only real difference? Optimus. Hate it or love it is the only major decising factor, IMO.

    Other than that, Starcraft 2 no longer pings me with "your computer is slowing down the game, disable background processes" in 3v3's with my friends since I moved from R1 to R2 :)

    In 30 days or less of ownership you should be able to call dell and say it ain't for you... and you want something faster... That's what I did!

    No, don't do that!

    The new Dell XPS'es have wonderful specs and sound absolutely fantastic on paper. But they are SO freaking ugly. They are the butterfaces of the laptop world.

    Don't they charge 15% restocking fee if you return it if there wasn't anything wrong with it?

    Yes, the 15% restocking fee is listed in their return policy.

    You may get lucky, and not get charged the restocking fee. But it is in Alienware's return policy that they can charge 15%.
