I received my Alienware M11x R2 in October and there were some multiple issues with it.
REALLY wide hinge gap on the right side and faulty bottom base cover.

As a result, I requested for a brand new replacement unit but it also had problems.
It had critical problem of GPU temperature going over 52C in idle and capacitor making high pitched noises.

I further requested for third brand new replacement unit but there are SO MANY scratches on it that I doubt it is brand new.

I requested Dell technician to come over and use all the good parts from these three units to build a "flawless" laptop and I am quite happy with the one I am using at the moment. However, Dell is trying not to take back the two replacement units I have. Dell told me that they are going to pick them up as soon as possible but it has been two months.

I called them up multiple times but they only say that they will call me back asap.
    What should I do o .O?

give me one and keep the other one :p JK

I would call dell and ask for a prepaid label to return those m11x

If you fail at return them dell will bill you for those 2 m11x, or send you to collections OR will void the warranty of Ur current m11x, return them.

Had a similar issue when trying to return my defective U2410 monitors. Had to fight tooth and nail to get the replacements.

When I got them they just left me hanging with the 2 bad monitors. I had to go out of my way and talk to a rep on the Dell forums to get pre-paid labels to send them back.

I was afraid if they just stayed with me at some point I would see some charges pop up on my credit card to pay for them.

Give one to R@Z3R and the other to BL@D3. Then hack the planet. Also, reminder to crack the DaVinci virus if you can as a tanker will turn over in the gulf if you do it in time.

I would say get another unit working and sit on them until they come knocking on your door to take them back.

I don't believe this gap is actually a real problem; my R2 has it and my R1 (before I messed with it) did as well. I think stems from the poor design and tolerances of the current M11x hinge design. I'd say stick with the first one and wait for the fix.

I agree with this. My original LCD assembly had a larger gap on the right. This new one does as well, although a little less so. It's extremely common to see this reported here too, but it's never been something that by itself has ever been tied hinges being prone to failure.

mine does too. but whats odd is the right side(the side with the gap) actually makes contact with the rubber bumper on the palm rest. the left side sits flush, even tho its not touching the rubber bumper.

Write them a letter, send it with delivery confirmation if possible, and keep a copy for yourself. Once you've notified them in writing it's no longer your problem (as long as you never agreed to ship the units back yourself).

I meant REALLY, meaning that people who were sitting behind and next to me were able to clearly see the huge difference between the hinge gaps. I don't mind the hinge gaps at the moment even though the right one is a bit larger. This is because they are not obvious.

That's serious grounds for a replacement. If you can wait until mid-March-ish when the re-designed LCD assembly is supposed to land then I'd do that.

Yeah, it shouldn't be REALLY different. Did you happen to snap any photos of it before it was replaced?

I remember sending some photos to Dell for replacement but it was pretty awhile ago.
I sent them the email around at the end of October 2010 and my sent emails have been deleted and I left no backup.
It would have been great to share such a shockingly wide hinge gap ! !

P.S. I am working on the second unit at the moment. I noticed that the hinge gap difference is much less obvious compared to the one I am using. I think it isn't only the monitor lid that is affecting the hinge gap but also the bottom base cover. I guess I need a GOOD bottom base cover and a GOOD monitor lid to have pretty similar hinge gaps. Unfortunately this bottom base cover's fan opening has been damaged and there are scratches everywhere ! !

Now THIS is a very interesting question. Most of the LCD panel discussion is between people who only have their laptop to look at so it doesn't go anywhere. God, I wish there was a good replacement panel option. I love my laptop but the screen frickin stinks. I checked with a parts distributer and the macbook air screen has a totally different connector.

Oh wow, I thought I was the only one. Having three m11x's at one point myself, I have come to the conclusion that the techs in Miami will send infinite amounts of replacements just to appease the crowd (aka: get you off their backs). Just be careful - the next thing that'll happen is the tech helping you out will go off on vacation every other week and not return your e-mails. ? Thank god they sent me a maxed out replacement to flip for profit...

I was thinking the same way too. I think they agreed to send me brand new replacements in order to get off.
They often suggested me to get a refund. I love this laptop so much that I declined those full refund offers.
I hope they will not ignore me in March when I ask them for replacement of hinges to the re-designed ones !

Very good advice. Just because they didn't send out the return airbill doesn't mean its forgotten. You should look into this asap and get squared away with accounting. When i had my XPS M1730, I had several parts changed out. 2 of the replacements were bad and had to be re-sent. During the whole mess, I completely forgot about one of the bad replacements and it sat underneath my desk for a couple of months. Well, low and behold I receive a robo-call from Dell followed by a nice letter in the mail asking me to return the part. I called support up and apologized for the mix up (it was my fault since I forgot to ship it back). Point is, even after a couple of months they followed up.

    ^ Agree 100%.

From a moral perspective, the two extra laptops do not belong to you. It is not right to keep them.

From a "will-I-get-caught" perspective, their inventory system will eventually reconcile their inventory, and see that they are a few laptops short. And then they will start digging through their records to see where those laptops are, and eventually find you.
