I have noticed several users with Kingston's HyperX memory in their M11x. Is there really a performance boost using this memory in an R2 when the max memory specs out at 800 mhz, or is this memory only suggested for the R3 where it can be utilized more effeciently.

Nope, no performance boost. Memory speeds on the Alienware M11x R2 maxes out at 800Mhz (or 996Mhz with a max overclock in the BIOS). Even if you could somehow magically get it to operate at 1600MHz, you still wouldn't notice any difference. RAM speed has virtually zero impact on any kind of real-world performance for OS, applications, or gaming.

There is no harm in buying Kingston HyperX memory (you won't "break" anything). But if you're looking for the best way to spend your money, skip the Kingston HyperX brand of memory (about $80 for a 2x4GB RAM kit). Any name-brand RAM will perform equally well inside of an Alienware M11x R2 (about $35-$40 for a 2x4GB RAM kit).

I don't know if it's good for the r2 or r3, but I know r1 pinmodders use this type of RAM to help with their overclocking.

Ya that is what I was thinking, I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way.
