In the bios I think you can overclock the CPU up to a maximum of 3%. Sandy Bridge is great out of the box but not very enthusiast friendly. Much better to concentrate on the GPU.

your right unclewebb, im not sure if sandybridge can even be stable with a 3% overclock, but who knows. we need someone to test it.

Well, the mobile versions aren't. The desktop K versions have unlocked multipliers and hitting 5.0 Ghz on air isn't unheard of.

throttle stop is a no-go. no overclocking, no throttle stop, no performance gain cpu wise. best you can do is overclock the gpu.

    Sorry to revive this thread...

I thought it was overclockable, just like the other M11X's?

On website for ordering it states 1.5ghz-2.6ghz for the clock frequency.

    How is that adjusted?

    I'm sorry - I still don't fully understand.

Is that something I can manually trigger, or disable?

Where is the option for turboboost?

Turboboost adjusts by itself. Throttlestop can't control Turboboost anymore. There is a BIOS option to overclock the CPU by 3mhz. Pretty sure you can turn it off too.

    Thank you Davy.

What is the point of the overlock in the bios if its so little.

The cpu is a 2nd gen sandy bridge ulv cpu and is already fast at stock speed so no need to oc it. If you want to OC and have some fun with it, get an R1.

An overclock is an overclock I guess.

I don't think so. UncleWebb can explain all the reasons why it won't work with the R3 but it's all down to Intel locking features in Sandy Bridge Core CPUs.

The new Sandy Bridge CPUs have most overclocking features locked by Intel or Dell or both so ThrottleStop can no longer improve performance on these.

A small CPU overclock in the bios is mostly for the marketing department. You might notice a 0% to 3% overclock when benching but you won't ever notice that in real world performance.
