Forewarning: The following is, perhaps, a very newb question. :)

I have an R1. I downloaded Arcania: Gothic 4 and it defaulted to "high" settings. However, I feel like there is the tiniest bit of lag when I move the mouse. I've downgraded the settings to the "medium" level and I've seen some improvement, but not enough; it's still a bit awkward/nauseating to play, albeit bearable. I haven't overclocked my system and, since buying it back in March, haven't adjusted it in anyway. My original purchasing specs will be posted below. I was really hoping to get the most out of this (and any) game and didn't want to have to play on low settings. Am I do something incorrectly? I played Witcher 2 on default medium settings and it worked very well. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks for any help :)

I would recommend to OC your systema via the BIOS (reaches 1.6Ghz the CPU), you should have some increase in performance ;)

Do you have the latest drivers for your GPU? If not try updating them and seeing if that helps.

You got playable fps with the witcher 2 on an r1?!?!? And on medium no less?!?!? You give me hope man!!!

Anyway, the r1 isn't as much fun to overclock since the CPU is pretty much locked down but there are some things to do to get better performance. Like the last guy said, overclock the CPU, while the laptop is booting and you see the alienhead logo press f12. This gets you into the boot menu, go down to enter setup, it's at the bottom, and press enter. In the next menu tap the arrow key to the right to the advanced tab and scroll down to OVERCLOCK. It should say disabled. Press enter and switch it to enabled. Then press f10 to save configuration. It boosts your CPU output to 1.6ghz.

You can also overclock the gpu too, I use msi afterburner because it's simple and easy to understand. To use it google it, download and install it. Open it up and you see 3 bars to adjust to your hearts content to overclock the gpu. I recommend 550/1350/875 for best results but it may or may not work for you, if not bring the bars down slowly 5 to 10 MHz at a time and test it. You can test it with the other program that comes with msi afterburner, it's called kombustor. Use the gpu burn in option to test your overclock. If the numbers on the right clock down to 405/324/810 or something similar, you went to far, reboot your cOmputer and try a lower overclock. Hope this helps goodluck!

Deadboy: Best. Answer. Ever. Thank you so much. I'm not sure if it was just the overclocking of the CPU or what but the game is running so much better now. Thanks for the super easy-to-follow instructions.

And Witcher 2 was definitely playable. I didn't have any problems at all. Pretty good game, too!

Yeah if you plan on doing any gaming whatsoever on the m11x r1, i suggest OC. i never had to OC until i got BC2, and then i was like, "ok time to OC this beast" it does help :) glad to see you are enjoying your laptop.
