    Hi all,

I have an R2 with Optimus and would like to know how to prevent the graphics card kicking in whilst watching HD in windows media player? It was not doing it the other day but is now.....I did update drivers however to 257.3.

I would rather the Intel dealt with HD for battery life reasons.

    Thanks!

You have to clean install the new driver.

download the beta one from dell (that's what i did).

uninstall the old(current one for you). use driver sweeper in safemode and get rid of nvidia display.

reboot, and install the new one.

I've done it and now media player, firefox flash are played with intel, but IE flash are still played w/ nvidia for some reason.

    GL.

Is the safe mode step a must?

I tried uninstalling the lot, ran ccleaner then rebooted and installed the drivers again.

Still using the card for windows media player though.

Can you not just allocate the windows media .exe file in the Nvidia control panel as intergrated? Is that not the idea of those options?

I tried it but doesn't seem to work.

google driver sweeper buddy, it's a must. I didn't say CCleaner did I?

Like I said it's simple. Uninstall the old driver, reboot in safe mode, execute driver sweeper and clean out nvidia display, reboot, and install the new driver....

Simply add it to the Nvidia control panel and designate the Intel IGP rather than the 335.

    Ok a bit strange.

Done all of this and when I play my 720p download it still uses Nvidia. Althoiugh when I play the HD animals video that comes with media player, it doesn't use Nvidia.

Therefore adding it to the list is not final for some reason.

    Yup same player WM.

I also nticed that IE uses Nvidia with youtube HD clips so I added IE to the list and assigned it as ONLY Intel. This didn't work either as it continues to play with the Nvidia.

Obviously that list is not the be all and end all!

Any ideas why this exception list in the Nvidia control panel doesn't seem to work?

If I designate a program to only use Intel, it seems to decide for itself and use Nvidia if it wants to?

    Hmmm...

IGP is being used for Windows Media Player playback of a 1080p bluray rip that was encoded w/ x264 at a very high bitrate. Likewise it's being used for 720p material. I'm not sure what might be triggering your 335. In Intel HD should be able to handle ANY 1080p so I'm not sure why Optimus would be handing certain video playback to the 335.

I think we're missing some pieces of the puzzle.

Same here. I was under the impression that Chrome was the only browser that was having issues with Flash video being forced to the 335. Firefox doesn't have this problem and that's what I use. Not sure about Opera or Safari.

I think Nautis had something to say on this specific issue last week. In any event I suspect this is one of the things that Nvidia will work out as the drivers mature.

I have the opposite problem. I can't get the NVidia to kick in when running xvid videos from the m11xr2 or by streaming over my network even thoguh the NVidia is set as the default for WMP.
I am overclocked, but don't see what that would have to do with it.
The HD video which comes with the computer tries to use the NVideo and then crashes.
    Using the 257.3 drivers.
