    Hinge Repair - wrong color

    Just got my hinge repaired. However the replacement screen is the wrong 'color' (matte black instead of soft touch black). I didn't notice until the tech was completely done with assembly (it had some protective wrapping on the back that he took off as the last step). I didn't mention anything at the time - should I have? Can I get it replaced in the future if it bothers me?

    Call support back and let them know. Their mistake in ordering or shipping the wrong part.

    Happened to my brother too. he has a R2 and they game him a R1(glossy black) lid. he doesnt care cuz the quality of the LCD is so much better that the old one hes just keeping it that way...

    Im too OCD for that tho. i actually ended up reinforfincing mine with epoxy cuz i dont want to play with the LCD lottery.

    So I just talked to the Dell, and they told me that they are phasing out all R1/R2 LCD screens. As the R3 has the fixed hinge all replacement screens are R3 screens. Sadly there is no soft touch black as an option for this LCD screen, so they will only ship the matte black.

    hmmm... interesting... pull off your bottom cover and see if it came with 3 wifi antennas

    Well the m11xr1/r2 came with 2 antenna cables, the r3 came with 3 antenna cables.

    The cables are part of the screen assembly... so if they put a r3 screen in then its possible you have 3 antennas and that means you can install a much faster wifi card.

    Aren't the R2 and R3 black colors the same? They are both called stealth black with soft touch.

    Yea they are the same finish. only the R1 screen has the glossy (cosmic black) finish. the R2 & R3 both have the ruberized finish (unles your R2 is lunar shadow which is kindof glossy silver).

    Are you saying there is a difference now? matte (not rubberized) AND softtouch (rubberized)? i thought all matte finishes were rubberized. thats what i thought at least...

    Agreed. The R3 does have stealth black soft-touch finish. What you received was an R1 cosmic black. The Dell support rep you spoke with doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Call them back and tell them you want the proper LCD assembly sent to you.

    Well, something else is now screwed up (weird lines running through the screen, even through the bootup screen) so guess I'm calling back anyways. Bah.

    Check the webcam too, I got the same lid on my recent repair and the webcam also doesn't work. I will probably call next week and see about a replacement.

    Weird thing is I got a screen replacement for my R2 after the R3 and it has the soft touch. That screen seemed new where I'm pretty sure the one they put on the R3 was a refurb as the screen looked like it had been cleaned with a greasy rag.
