Hinge / Battery Issue

Hey there,

So I've just contacted Dell with some issues I'm having with my M11x.

The left hinge is pretty knackered, and the webcam doesn't work anymore. Those issues I'm assuming will get fixed, as the tech has asked for pictures, so that's fine.

The battery issue though...

When I brought it up, he said the battery only has a 6 month warranty, is that true? I was under the impression it was a year.

The battery life seems to have dropped a hell of a lot since I bought it. I got the laptop in March and it had 8 hours of battery life, around about, on the Intel GPU. Now it's barely managing 4.

I'm in the UK - any advice? Does the battery come with a 12 or 6 month warranty? I was sure I read 12.

If not, is it possible to buy replacement batteries yet?

Why does the battery have a different warranty period than my system?
A Dell's standard battery warranty is one year. Batteries are a consumable item. All batteries degrade with time and use. The warranty is very similar to common auto warranties which exclude consumable items such as tires.

I also read a year somewhere else but am not at home to check inside the box - should be a warranty card or in the User Guide. Check that and then ring back and say you are within your warranty period.

Batboy confirms 1 year warranty in the thread you have linked to - so contact Dell and tell them how it is

I've looked at the email I received and Alienware's own warranty site. They both say one year.

Even then, it's only been 6 months since March.

I've emailed customer support, but I'll phone them up on Monday if they don't answer me.

BTW, I'm curious how your battery lost capacity so fast. Do you game on battery? Do you run it out of battery (i.e., let it drain so much you have to either shut it off or are forced to plug in)?

 

Nope, not really.

I've ran it down maybe once or twice, but most of the time my use is pretty regular with it.

I game on battery sometimes, but it's pretty rare. I've done it once on a plane and some gaming here and there, but nothing I can imagine reducing the capacity that fast.

I'm really not sure what's happened to it - but the battery life just drains very quickly when on the integrated. It's pretty shocking compared to when I originally got it.
