    Hello everyone,

I've been wanting to buy M11x for the longest time but I wasn't sure if I really need one or not. Today, I finally decided to pull my trigger and purchased M11x r1. Now while Im waiting for my M11x to get to my house I thought maybe it's good idea to prepare myself on what to do with my laptop so I am here to ask some questions.

First, What is the first thing I should do with this laptop? Does M11x come with preinstalled crap softwares? Obviously I should update my BIOS and Nvidia Driver but what's the best one out there? (A05 for BIOS is good? What about 260.99 hybrid driver?) Also how far can you overclock this machine? My main purpose for this laptop is to play game on the go and I will be playing SC2. We'll I be able to overclock CPU and GPU? And I was thinking of getting the SSD but will it even improve the game performance for SC2 if I use SSD? Thank you and I will appreciate any kind of tips and advice.

i cant speak on all those questions but,

the 1st thing i am doing when i get my next R1 is install a fresh copy of windows. i noticed a huge difference in load times and general snappyness after i did this on the 1st one i had.

i wouldn't call the install totally bloated. aside from the anti-virus trial i found i didn't need much of the alienware utillites. but some may disagree with me on that. (but fyi i went from like 70 processes down to like 40 something after i uninstalled some of than stuff)

yours will probably come with the latest bios.

i just used the drivers from the dell site and all seemed fine.

the factory OC is 1.6ghz in the bios. you just enable the overclocking mode in there. there is a other thread wher a few ppl are working on getting this baby past 1.6ghz. and a few have already had success.

the gpu can be OCed as well. i used evga precision.

imo a SSD doesn't make a huge impact on games but makes the system generally more responsive. programs load much faster and battery life may improve a tad.

or you can use a small program called wintoflash. you just need to have another computer with a dvd drive and a 4gb flash drive

another vote for win2flash. I just used it and its rock solid. Make sure you make the usb an active partition or it wont boot.

I just got an m11x myself. I have a lenovo y460 and am deciding which one i want to keep ... (ones better but pricier)

someguy, do you know if you do a clean install of windows it voids your warranty or not? I have heard it does from lenovos thread somewhere or messing with the partitions. I want to do a clean install from a usb too cause all this alienware crap is making the computer really slow. Honestly, from what ive read and heard, ive heard nothing but good stuff about this computer and it is a let down and im not exactly sure why. Maybe its because mine only has 2gb of ram...?
