I just reloaded the system, device manager is fine, all drivers loaded. When I do HDMI it works fine to my tv but I get no sound. On my old laptop I had to right click on the sound icon in the lowere right, then set the HD SPDIF device as the default device and all was well. However on my MX11 I just have 2 devices, speakers and headphone, nothing else. Did I load the wrong soundcard driver?
    any help would be great.

Sound will come from your Intel HD and nVidia drivers when using HDMI. Sound drivers installed should be Realtek HD.

right click on sound in corner, select playback devices, you should see speakers, right click anywhere there and make sure show disabled and disconnected devices are checked... When you are plugged into HDMI, you should see a new device show up which is your TV... right click on that device and make sure it set as your default device. When you unplug HDMI, your computer speakers will return as the default.

Had the same problem the other day I think. The sound only came from the laptop. All I had to do was restart.. But I guess your problem is more complex than that.

Did you change the playback device?

You are correct that that is the way to output sound over hdmi and it is what I do (note that it's only there when the cable is connected). What driver did you install? I believe that there is only 1 on the Dell download site, so unless you dug one up from somewhere else, there shouldn't be a problem there. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.

the only device ever listed is speakers, when O plug in my tv nothing happens. No added device. It worked once, so I know it works. I just plugged it in and it worked, didntm ess with any settings, restarted and now it doesnt work. I didnt check playback devices when it was working. Somone mentioned HDCP, could this be an issue?
