Just got my M11x R2, and after running through a lot of the posts here I'm really finding out just how jacked up Optimus really is. Looking for simple answers to a few simple (possibly stupid) questions:

    1. Can I default to the use 335M at all times? I don't care about mobility or battery life.....just quality output when I'm not using it on battery.

    2. When connected to my HP 2709M display via HDMI, 1080p is presented larger than the display (desktop is off the screen), but the native resolution is 1920x1080. Is this because the Intel graphics doesn't support 1080p? Is it a scaling issue? Which brings me back to the first question....if it's defaulting to the 335M, would that solve the problem?

I'm running the Verde 270.51 drivers. I have no problem with with this display @ 1920x1080 when connected to my gaming rig / GTX285.

    Thanks for any advice.

Boot to bios and change graphics to discrete to enable 335m at all times.

OP has an R2, there is no such BIOS option.

To answer OP's original performance question, there is no easy way to ensure the 335 is always engaged. If the system power plan is set to "high performance", then that should work some of the time, but chances are you're going to have to whitelist almost every game you play. However, once you have everything whitelisted, you won't need to do anything after that - it should work.

Go inside the nvidia control panel and set the High Performance Graphics adapter as the preferred option. That fixes the whitelist. That's half the problem.

The other half is output. The GT335 has no connection to the display or HDMI port- that is routed through the GMA because of the way Optimus works. Setting the 335 as preferred won't fix this. Looks like you have a problem with overscan. Not sure how to fix that with the GMA but it does support 1080p.

If you need the 335 to output, use Display Port, that is the only direct connection the 335 has, bypassing the GMA.

Thanks guys - I'm waiting on the displayport adapter to show up and we'll see how that works with my overscan issue.
