So out of nowhere when I plugged in my g9x laser mouse I got a blue screen and then after that then my gpu and nvidia stuff stooped working. So I uninstsllef, drive sweeper to get rid odor all and then I tried everytime else. Is this a software or hardware issue by sound of it?

do factory reset, if it ain't there, you are screwed and is calling dell support for warranty, if its there you're in luck. as simple as that.

Somehow after many reboots I got the computer to recognize the gt 540m again, and got drivers installed. The "unknown device" was still showing up anyway. I just ignored it, another BSOD and then I cannot find the gt540m and cannot access Nvidia control panel. I am trying a windows re install.

I don't use that program, and any back up I had was on my old external HDD which went bust. If it is a critical issue, I normally feel that re install works better than restore.
