I've been using my Alienware M11x for about two weeks now, and am very happy with it as a portable gaming machine. But when I switch back to my Dell XPS M1330 (13.3" screen), the screen real-estate feels HUGE. I can't believe that I ever thought the 13.3" screen was ever "small".

Has anybody else experienced this? Has anybody used their M11x so much, that every other laptop screen feels luxuriously larger?

I plugged mine into my 40" Samsung LCD tv's HDMI port when I was feeling the need lol

Desktop real estate was a concern of mine prior to purchasing. Checking out the screen on floor models of the R1 didn't make me feel any better, but after 6 weeks I've adjusted a lot better than I thought I would. I thought I'd find some relief with a virtual desktop utilities, but Windows 7's window management is good enough to have made those feel like a waste of my time. I do miss the side-by-side window arrangements that's been ingrained into my workflow for years. Luckily I've got external monitors available at work and home.

It is very much a jarring experience switching back to my 15" ASUS and even my 13" MBP though. They feel positively massive in comparison!

    Yeah, definitely true!

The one thing that has helped the M11x's screen feel larger than 11.6" is the relatively high resolution on a screen this size (1366x768). The pixel size is what lets you fit more "stuff" onto the screen, albeit smaller and shrunk-down "stuff".

I have the M17xR1 and the M11xR1, there is a big difference, but I appreciate the smaller screen. Got used to it from owning the Dell Inspiron 11Z. What I like even better is the fact that the laptop can sit on my desk in my office and not seem huge compared to my work laptop, a Thinkpad 15".

I used the m11x for about 3 weeks, then went back to my old 19" laptop, and I was just giddy with joy for the sheer size of the screen. I was truly baffled as to how I didn't notice how small it was. Same thing happened to me with when I switched to a 15", but I couldn't tell the difference between a 19" and a 15".....

My girlfriend has a Toshiba 17" which dwarfs my Alienware in comparison. I usually watch movies on hers, though we play games on mine. I thought I would be turned off by the small resolution when I first got it, but it's not so bad.

I have a hp mini 311 which has the same screen size as the M11x, so i am expecting little adjustment.

I do however hook it up to a 24" 1080p monitor when at my desk, with the addition of a 2nd 24" 1050 screen some times. That gives me desktop levels of screen space.

For couch surfing it's back to the on board 720 screen.

TIP: move the taskbar to the left hand side (from bottom) on wide screens to give more of the vertical space to apps.

I've been using my 22'' for about 2-3 years now and when I got my M11X, my transition was so smooth that it shocked me. Obviously when you put it next to a larger screen it's going to feel small, but when you use it on it's own it feels perfect.

Provided your eyesight is average, you shouldn't have too much difficulty adjusting.
