I've got a few games on disc format, is there anyway to get these on the M11X without an external CD/DVD Drive? I read one YouTube comment that you can use the games CD key to download 'em off of Steam - Is this true?

    Thank you.

Some games allow installation through steam, but not all.

Install steam and give it a try, it won't hurt.

You can also make image files of the discs using another computer with a cd drive and copy them over.

If you are lucky they might just let you copy the contents without making an image to a thumb drive or via network.

Otherwise you will have to make an image of them.

if you have a fairly newer OS you should be able to install/ Read any optic drive from a desktop in your house over your network. Theres a how-to but its been posted here before.

I have an extra laptop so I ripped the files from the CD, transferred to my external drive, and then popped it onto my M11x.

I once set my dad's optical drive as a shared drive on our home network off his desktop. Then I just hooked my laptop to the router and it detected it as a shared DVD drive. :) (This was before I got one of those small, portable USB drives)

I got an external Lightscribe DVD-RW for $50. I could be wrong, but seems like anyone buying an Alienware should be able to afford an extra $50. If you don't plan on taking your drive around with you everywhere (I don't) then just "fix" the game after it's installed.

They have been around for about a decade, so I'm pretty sure they are legal.
