I have no idea if this is normal, you can see my system specs in my sig below, and I don't understand why my system won't run GTA4 smoothly. I've tried the minimum possible settings and still the fps are really low. Like unplayable, starts at 15 and whenever I try moving it lags for a few seconds then runs smoothly for another few seconds then lags again..This is very frustrating because this is the first time I've encountered such a problem with my m11x R1. I can play Call of Duty: Black Ops at max settings at 20-30fps but I can't run GTA 4 with ultra low settings at all? I mean do you guys think this is a software issue or what? I have the 260.99 driver..i've never had such a problem with any other game, I mean is GTA 4 really that CPU intensive that it won't even run properly? Please help, i've tried everything running compatibility on Windows 2000, turning off my GPU overclock, and still the problem persists! I was really excited to play GTA 4 since I was an avid GTA fan but got tired of it way back when the GTA: Vice City was released, so this is my first time to start playing it again then this happens..So frustrating consider the GTA: Vice City back in the day ran with my 128MB 5500FX graphics card and a 2.8GHz Pentium D processor with 512MB ram! i mean really? it won't even run for pete sake!

P.S.: My pagefile is off but my RAM doesn't even hit half so this isn't an issue right? Just wanna cover all angles.

You need a strong quadcore cpu to run GTA4 (which is badly coded basicly), and better gpu than your m11x has would help aswell ;-)

GTA IV is a badly coded POS, steer clear.

This is so sad..You mean this is my first game ever that my M11x actually CAN'T run???? Up till now i felt my M11x could conquer anything..I felt indestructible, but now that I've witnessed a game I actually can't run, this is a real bummer for me..It's like I've met my match in a way..So sad.. :(

The M11x could easily run GTAIV if it was optimised for the PC, it's just a lazy port. Don't worry, you're not missing anything; I've got it for the xbox360 and gave up after 1 hour of generic repetitive fetch style gameplay.

Thankfully I got it on Xbox 360 with the 2 extra DLCs. @Bendak Isn't your avatar a Star Wars old Mandalorian? Just wondering.

Well I had in for my PS3 as well, but sold it a LONG time ago, didn't even finish the game, got tired of it pretty quick..But GTA has an odd way of suddenly being "missed"..I just suddenly realized how much fun playing GTA was and so decided to get a copy for my M11x to "pawn" just to learn that there actually is a game my M11x wont even run! *sheds a tear :(

I know how you feel. I finished GTA IV and GTA IV Liberty City (DLC) one and a half years ago and yesterday on my Xbox 360, I used a infinite health USB mod. So much fun just pwning SWAT and the FBI. I feel bad for the cops, all they get is one crappy Glock 18. ALWAYS Google if your system can run a game. I gave up thinking the M11X R1 was the best PC after Crysis and Black Ops. I regret...

Hehe, it indeed is. In KOTOR Bendak Starkiller is a famous Mandalorian which you must fight to the death in Taris' underground dueling circuit in order to collect the bounty on his head.

Haven't tried crysis but my COD:Black Ops runs pretty well..Not perfect but that's just because I have it at max settings and anti-aliasing x4.. :D It would probably run flawlessly at medium settings..I think Black Ops is just built poorly like GTA 4..I mean I know the M11x isn't a "monster" gaming rig but I expected to be able to at least play GTA 4.. :(

try the pin mod brother. I dont have the R1 myself but in the benchmarks I've seen the c2d fairs well against the R2.. and GTA4 being the old game it is I am guessing doesnt utilize 4 cores I bet or at least the way it should... so basically by overclocking/pinmodding you could prolly fair a better chance in gTA4

Gta 4 does use 4 cores. Mosty single cores and duel cores will have trouble with the game.

I use too play gta 4 on my old 939 socket which has a very high clock duel core opteron overclock @ 3ghzs and max fps i got on that even on low settings was 20 too 23fps max i even had a ati 4890 which didn't change much at all, As soon as i upgraded too quad on my desktop the fps went up too high 30s and 40s and 50s and it was using all 4 cores, haven't really checked if the game uses all 6 cores now on my 1090t but i herd it does help.

Haven't tried gta 4 on my m11x r2 yet, But by the videos on youtube it plays pretty well.

But ya the pin mod will help but not going too be crazy results its just the game works best with more than 2 cores. The m11xr2 is also 2cores but the extra 4 threads does help a bit.

Very sad.. :( Yeah I actually plan to do the pinmod, just need to muster up the guts to solder 1mm pins lol, but i really want the 2.0GHz and 8k++ 3dmark score..Also the 5.6 WEI score looks a lot better than 4.6 lol..Hopefully 1 day I get to do the mod..Though I do plan to sell this R1 in a couple of months so maybe not..Gonna get an R3 or maybe an M14x in a couple of months..But I really wanna play GTA 4 on my R1.. :( If a 3.0GHz C2D can barely run it then I doubt even with the pinmod I can run it smoothly..Bad job coding GTA 4 for the PC..i mean optimizing it almost exclusively for quad core is just negligent.. :(

    @BeastRider
    Hey there,
Read your post and I'm very empathetic. Even though I can't really offer you any suggestions (you seem to know your way around games), what I CAN do is to SHOW you that the M11x can and does handle GTAIV quite well.
MY specs - M11xR1, 4GB Ram, 500GB Harddisk, OCed CPU, GPU at stock settings.
Here's a video I made to prove to you that the M11x is indeed "indestructible"!

    Peace.

Wow guys, way to help him out, the game should run, not at 1080p with everythin in high, but at least not at the lowest settings....

Go to youtube, there are a lot of videos with GTAIV and the m11x R1 and R", and is very playable, maybe all mediums, with some AA and no shadows to get 30-40fps....

And to the Topic Creator, it could be your drivers, with the 267, the game does not use the Nvidia card, just the intel, try to update to the 270 drivers, I used to have the same problem a few days ago when I got the game in the steam sale...

Your kidding right? R2 runs the game great. I am using a 160mhz overclock all the time to play all my games no over clock on the GPU. Running at 1600x900 with shadows at medium and everything else what it recommended it run great! The only time I had a problem was last night when I was finishing downloading portal 2, it was pinging the hard drive so it was stuttering a little. I would ask if you white listed but since you are on an R1 that's not an issue.

I actually thought that rockstar did a good job on the game. Ported well to PC. But I am not here to troll bait or flame, so that is for another time in another thread.

After reading this thread. I decided to try this game in my m11x r1. And I have to say it runs great...

After installing it I did this:
    a) Install 1.0.6.0 Patch.
    b) Mood commandline.txt file.

Will try updating driver and probably update the game as well? I have no idea why I can't run GTA4 cause frankly I've never found a game that wouldn't run 30fps in high settings and at least x4 AA..i only had to go medium with splinter cell:conviction and that runs great..So I really don't know what I'm doing wrong with GTA4.. :(

Thanks to all your tips, will try them all..Please feel free to post more recommendations..I'm stumped and I hate it.. :(

GTAIV suddenly becomes playable with a mild 133MHz boost on the cpu.....

GPU overclocking will not help at all as the utilisation is so low.

Thought it was that dude. I wish they would release KOTOR2 on Steam, I just got KOTOR1 in March but I played it on the Xbox when I was VERY young. Also, GTA IV should run good on the R2, it's the CPU which is the bottleneck on the R1.

For the best performance, patch GTA IV to 1.0.04 (not to be confused with 1.040).

I keep on eyeing the buy now button on KOTOR in Steam, but so far have resisted. You've started the itch up again now.
