Ok guys i have been bouncing from laptop to laptop, and i really like alienware. However i wanted a m15x but after the 3 hour battery life with regular use, that was defiantly a turn off. I just wanted to know if i bought an m11x and maxed out the the specs full everything( including RAM / SSD) and i over clocked the core i7 and i have overclocked the GT 335. How long would i honestly be able to play games. Im goin to college in 3 and a half years, so would it be able to last that long? I'm not sayin maxed out everything, i guess i could accept med - low settings. I would really appreciate any help.

in some newer games it can barely muster 30-40 fps. So in three years im guessing its not gonna okay anything new? Unfortunately thats how it goes with computers. This is why I started doing a lot of console gaming, as keeping up with computers gets expensive. To play the latest games most would recommend buying a new computer every year.

If you have no choice though, get the m11x. It will have more longevity than a lot of other notebooks, and its uber portable..

I use the m11x as my main PC, DOW2 runs great on ultra, it should last you for 2 years at least if you don't mind med-low. But remember med to low in future games will be like high in games right now.

Well at least some people helped. Nobody has to answer any questions.

Not a lot of people can answer this question as nobody knows the specs of games being developed. So you basically finished your first semester of highschool? The m11x would be fine for highschool gaming and should last until college, but not knowing the specs of upcoming releases, nobody can be 100%.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M Read that for benches and to get some idea as to what it is capable of.

naming your thread to something more identifying will get your more replies in the future. i only came here out of bordem.

i normally don't click on threads that say stuff like "So mad right now", "HELP ME" or "m11x".

not trying to be a jerk, just trying to help.

as for your question 3yrs for the avg. PC is cutting it close. considering the M11x is about running on tech thats over a yr old already, some may say that it may not get you by for 3yrs. but it really comes down what games you want to play and what FPS and settings you consider playable.

so in short no one can really truly answer this for you cuz we don't know how much more demanding games will get in the next few yrs. but if i had to guess you would be wanting a new laptop in maybe 2 yrs unless you got something top of the line by todays standards. then maybe you might get 3-4yrs out of it. but this is just guessing.

    hope that helps.

The M11x plays games, the i7 setup right gets the job done. Check out the gaming threads for details.

However, it will not be up there in 3years IMO and i would question if any laptop from today would be suitable in 3years.

I'd also consider that the rate at which tablets/slates are developing then the whole Fixed/Mobile split will shift. They are already showing gaming delivered to Pads via virtulisation.

I'd spend a bit less and get something that meets your needs now + 1yr.

You obviously have a very strong focus towards performance.

The ideal buyer for the Alienware M11x should have the word "portable" be one of the first words that come out of their mouths. Since you didn't mention that word even once, I must assume that portability is not one of your top two priorities.

The M11x makes some sacrifices to achieve its portability. And if that portability is not your #1 or #2 priority, then I would recommend that you pass on buying it.

Its a very easy question for you here... Do you NEED a computer to be away from a plug more then 3 hours when NOT gaming? If you NEED such battery performance then the M15x will not work for you. The M11x will. But you sacrifice gaming performance for battery performance.

if you can live with being off plug for 3hrs MAX and want the best gaming performance then the M15x will be a better choice for you vs the M11x. And will get you to that 3yr shelf-life for acceptable gaming performance.

When looking at a laptop, do the following.
    1) Make your budget.
    2) Make a list in order of preference what you want your laptop to be able to do.
    3) Assign a weighted value to each preference.. ie.. if your top preference is ability to game well for 3 year assign a weight like 5 to it, while lower preference items will have a lower then 5 weight to it.)
    4) Hunt for laptops in your budget and list out how they answer to your preference... Add up the weighted values that the laptop answers to your preferences.

The laptop that has the best weighted value is your choice of laptop within your pre-assigned budget.

As you can see.. Only you can really decide what is the best laptop for you...
