Hi all, glad I found this forum; I received my m11x last night, and thought I would do a fresh format of windows 7 with the disk I received.

However I had a quick question, it does state on the disk that software and drivers won’t be installed, at the bottom it says software included on this dvd-rom is a back up from factory settings.

Basically what I wanted to know if I used this, would I use the funky boot up alienware screen, images and themes etc, just wondered if anyone else had used it and if they lost anything, like would it install and look like as if you installed from a retail version of windows 7?

You will loose all of the "alienware" stuff and will have to find and reinstall it all. also you will need to get all the drivers online.

Yeah, I just left the factory install in cause its not all that bad. Get CCleaner and remove unwanted programs and registry bits left over from them.

Yeah think I will do that, just had a better look at the system, it's cleaner than I first thought, not much bundled rubbish and really nice to see a laptop that doesn’t have Norton pre-installed lol, think I’ll just check if there's any updates, I’ve updated the bios which was no problem, so should be fine as it is.

You can change it back after a new install.

If you have a spare hdd you can clone your stock install onto that, then do your reformat and if you cant/dont like what you did, just install the cloned version back onto the computer. I always clone a computer when I first get it so I can quick make it factory fresh any time I need to.
