Last night, while at college with my girlfriend, we were laying in her bad playing League Of Legends together... Anyways my m11x (sig for details) can play the game at high settings 50-60FPS, and love it... After an hour or two of gaming, obviously the laptop got warm... when I moved it and jerked it real quick, it suddenly started lagging... down under 20 FPS... it remained bad until i sat up, and the laptop chilled out... but when the laptop moved again quickly, FPS spike... A combo between the accelerometer and heat?

Once I got on her desk, the laptop remained flat and cooled a little... the gaming resumed 60FPS quickly... Odd?

For people who gain lag quickly into their games, make sure you're playing flat and the laptop isn't getting too hot... I'm not sure what did it, but this was a first last night for me.

Same here DJ when it gets warm the lag starts. Usually I get 35-70 fps. avg of 45-55.

It's never a good idea to game on a bed,no matter what laptop you are using.Even with a notebook cooler,it's still not good at all!

    Hot?
Guys heat shouldn't be causing any lag, these chips are designed to withstand 110C+. I would know, I had the m5550 for about 3 years and was using the 8600M GT, on average the notebook temps were 96-110C+ but I could still game like a madman without a shut off. I guarentee that its not the heat thats causing you're lag, possibly what vless mentioned, a faulty card, but otherwise a "good" card should be able to take any heat the m11x throws at it.

The chip might be able to handle 110+ but that is the absolute maximum thermal threshold before failure. Thermal throttling will occur before this to prevent damage to other components (given how close the CPU and GPU are in the M11x this is understandable).

The OP mentions he noticed this happen when he "jerked" the machine suddenly. Could this be the safefall feature or whatever it is called trying to park the hard drive thinking it was falling? I don't see the heat levels that are being mentioned causing this.

Disable your accelerometer first of all. It could be throttling but since I have no idea the specifics of that, well, someone else will have to inform you.

Most likely this is the cause of the sudden lag although the positioning of the laptop would not help from a thermal point of view (the fan would be blocked).

I had a problem like this before. It was related to a bad power supply. There was some kind of bad / loose connection somewhere, where the laptop would not get full power from the power supply.

As a result, the laptop would slow down tremendously (45fps down to 8fps in L4D2) until I either completely unplugged the laptop from power and ran it off of battery, or until I replaced the faulty power supply with a reliable one.

Based on your description about how the lag happened right as you shifted positions, and how this went away when you set the laptop down on a desk (a stable surface), a loose power connection may be the problem. You can test this theory by rebooting your laptop next time this happens. You should get some kind of message when you boot up along the lines of "Incompatible Power Supply" or "POwer Supply could not be identified".

    Hope this helps.

Heat shouldn't be causing the lag ? and if you have the computer off the coves or whatever you have on your bed, its not different then having it on a desk.

    I agree.

Some people are instantly jumping to the conclusion of heat. But I've had this problem before, and it was related to a defective power supply or power supply connector.

It may be a batch of GPU's that have issues, I have been having the same issue where as soon as my GPU hits 74 degrees bam it drops the clocks to below stock and the performance sucks for even those clocks. I contacted AW about it on Wednesday and the rep stated from log files and dump files that it's an issue they've seen that is either the mobo or gpu(they haven't been able to pinpoint it yet) and that they are sending a new mobo out. I get that today so we'll see if it fixes it.

computer moving turns on the disk-protect module.so it slows down disk speed quickly and cause the lag you mentioned.M11x has a acceleration sensor inside=)
