Well, it was bound to happen. Today was the first time that I took my 11x R1 out into the wild after almost 2 years of first getting it. It has sat at home as a desktop replacement hooked up to a 27" monitor. Now most ppl would ask why the heck did I not use it as it was meant to be used, a portable laptop that could play most games. Well, to be honest, the whole hinge issues got me paranoid to the point where I did not even close the lid of this thing more than 6 or 7 times total. Crazy huh?

If I understand it correctly, Dell will fix the hinge problem one time, no matter how long I've had the laptop so that is a bit of assurance. It also helps that there are a couple of active Alienware representatives on this site should I ever need assistance with my laptop. Kudos to them.

Oh, while in B&N and Starbucks, I got many ooohhhhs and aaaahhhh and lots of compliments :p

Use it! At this point you start getting into life cycle stuff where you have to start thinking replacement anyway. Exceptions of course but at 3yr mark there will be no "shock" if failures occur or itchy fingers for new tech. If your battery is still good I suggest enjoying that because when it drops in run time you will be less likely to go about.

My first year the R1 was always on the move. Not so much now (just in the house sometimes). Not so much for battery but with less than 3hr run time I do have to consider where I'm going and for how long.

    Nice story btw.
