When I hook up my mx518, i can only use the scroll bar and back and front buttons on the side. However, when I hook the same mouse up to my old windows xp laptop the coasting/scroll buttons above and below the scroll bar work automatically.

Any way to get these to work without installing logitech's setpoint software?

What do you guys do for your external mice?

Haven't installed it in ages (due to my little mac hiatus) but if I install it, it will only affect the external usb mouse correct? Not gonna mess with my trackpad? but it will just sit in the system tray until its ready to be used?

Correct. I use Setpoint for my mouse and my external keyboard (which I rarely connect). I can still use the trackpad with multigestures with or without the mouse connected. There is an option in the trackpad drivers to disable the pad if a mouse is detected, but I did not mess with it. I have both active when I use an external mouse.

When I connect an external keyboard, both keyboards still work as well

    Cheers,
