    Hey guys and girls,

I own a M11X R2, I need to buy a external monitor for my desk and I'm a little lost and was wondering what experiences other people had.

I need a HD monitor that is a decent size to watch films and play games on (PS3). However at the same time it can't be too big since I will be hooking up my M11x to it to: program, surf and play games.

Example: Who writes documents on a 50' screen?

So, I thought I would go for something around 20+ inches.

    So, my questions:

    1. What is the optimum size and what is too big?
    2. Will I be able to output 1080p via my laptop?
    3. How does it work with the resolution? Can I output a larger resolution to match the size of the screen?
    4. What monitors to you use?

    Thanks for your time,

    BitByteBit.

    1. There is no such thing as 'too big'. My sweet spot is around 32', but I might be getting a 42' soon for kicks and grins.

    2. In short: Yes. In long: YEEEEEES. HDMI works great. I set mine to output just to the tv/monitor. If you set the tv as a secondary display, some games will refuse to output to it and use the laptop display instead. To get around that I just display to the monitor and turn off the laptop display.

    3. You should be able to adjust the secondary display's resolution to whatever you want. It isn't hard, and this laptop can play videos at 1080x1024 just fine, though like always your mileage may vary.

    4. At home I use a 32' and 19', and at work a 50' plasma. :)

LOL. I agree with kich; can't ever be too big. But if your just going to use it for general stuff, look at the marginal cost to go one size bigger. For example (purely hypothetical) to go from a 19" to a 21" costs $50 more but to go from a 19" to a 23" only costs $75 more, then go for the 23". And if your wondering I am a student, so if money is not an issue, just buy the one you like. :)

I know the m11x can watch 3D movies, so I dont know if you want to invest in the "future" and look at screens with refresh rates of 120Hz. Just an idea.

    I use a 19" Phillips monitor. Its resolution is 1680 x 1050. Not quite 1080p but good enough. :)

I have watched a 1080p movie on a 40" something screen and no problems. Gaming at 1080p is not something I am sure about. Might just have to turn shaders down. :) Just remember the 335gt is only a mid range card.

I've played Batman Arkham Asylum and bioshock on an external monitor and it was great. I know it's not a representative sample still.

I'm currently using an I-Inc 28" External Display. Yes I know, I-Inc isn't really well known, but its parent company Hannspree is. I bought the 28" Inch display off TigerDirect for around 250 dollars and use for my Xbox 360 display and personal home computer use. Comes with built in speakers and ALL the cables you can ever wish for. I don't have any dead pixels and brightness is wonderful. Anyway, if you are interested, here is the link that I found:

    I-Inc iH-282HPB 28 Class Widescreen LCD Monitor - 1920 x 1200, 15000:1 Dynamic, 16:10, 3ms, VGA, HDMI at TigerDirect.com
