Since my warranty expired I decided to cleaned out the fan on my M11x R2.
Check out how much dust had built up after about a year

    !!!

Taking it apart wasn't that hard, my only advice would be to use the service manual and keep track which screws came out of which holes.

I did not redo the thermal paste, I wonder if this an issue since I took off the heat sink???

oh mate, that is nothing. mine was clogged up way worse, you could hardly see through the holes... thats cause i used it placed on a carpet... HORRID.

You should have seen my aunt's HP lappy after 3 years, the fan was spinning in this sort of nest cocoon made of dust... i was like, omg , part'n the language... seen way worse in my life.

Lol THIS it a knife! When I had to reflow my ps3 I opened it up for the first time, total? I took out enough dust to make a ball the size of a mini basketball. But yea, since you took off the heatsinks you should put on new thermal paste. Clean off the old stuff with alcohol and reapply.

I bought a small air compressor from Sears just for cleaning my lappys and desktop. I think I got it for $80 on sale. Endless supply of air, never freezes up. In the long run much cheaper that canned air.

I use compressed air every couple of months on my M11x to prevent these things happening!

I clean my laptop(s) at least once a week using a vacuum cleaner. I've never had any problems with dust. From 7 years :) .
