I am a new Alienware M11x R2 owner. Got my system around 2 month. :)mad: before the R3 and M14 came out). My roommate also have an Lenovo X201 i7 (bought it one month before my purchase). well... I was amazed with the durability of the X201 a few days ago. He put the X201 on the top of my desk. I accidentally knocked it off the desk and it fell to the floor of my living room (no carpet, wooded floor. ) Well.. just a little scratch on his system.. But it worked fine .. According to my roommate he dropped it few times before and even did spill water or coffee on top it . ... Well can M11 take the same kind of beating or abuse ??? Since it is a lot heavier .. I guess........if it took a 4 feet fall.......it won't work any more right???

of course I am not asking you guys to do the same thing to your M11

No Limit to M11...If you have M15 or M17... Please share your experience...

i would avoid dropping any laptop unless its a toughbook! I've had to repair too many dropped units over the years.

    Well...
what if I do drop it, will the Alienware survive. or need to go to hospital .... Since beside the M11... M15/ M17 / M14 are pretty heavy. ....and accident is impossible to avoid sometime.

Well its kinda hard too tell if it will survive or not each system is pretty much different in there own way lol

Just like your roommates Lenovo X201 his survived but that doesn't mean all x201s will.

The m11x is very solid well too me it is and it does seem like it will take a good beating but i wouldn't want too find out.

But i would say the m11x would have a good chance of surviving , Not sure about the hard drive tho. Sense they don't like being bumped.

True.. I guess all Alienware owner would take care of their system well to avoid any kind of accident. Alienware is considered to be high end laptop... But still amazed with how the Lenovo stay against the beating. .... Beside...... I wasn't disappointed with what I got for my M11R2.. On the other hand, my friend who is Apple fans would mock me for spending so much on a piece of junk. I would still argue that; " your macbook pro doesn't have the fancy FX lightening like my Alienware. " :D

An object can fall in so many different ways that it would be nearly impossible to tell you that your laptop is more or less durable.
You could collect 1000 m11x's and 1000 Lenovo's, take turns dropping them from similar heights, allowing them to hit in the exact same locations, and then changing the spot of contact 999 more times. Just report back to me when you're done!

"Everything is only as strong as its weakest point." -Anonymous (don't remember who said it)

Basically the weakest part will break first if you ever drop it, just take care of it. Think of it like a baby; if you drop it, things will go in all the wrong directions.

If you're afraid of accidents then just get the advanced AW warranty and you'll be problem free. I personally meticulously take care of my laptop (I even place it in a plastic sealing bag before I go to sleep every night to prevent any dust from accumulating on it along with a laptop-friendly cloth between the keys and screen when it's folded :p).

Wow... prevent any dust from accumulating on it  trust me I did the same thing to all my computer :p well just like what I said most of people in this forum took good care of their Alienware. Only a few have any kind of "accident" experience which they can share.. Well.. kind of new to AW system... How do the AW warranty work??? never pay any kind of attention to it when i get my system..

All AW systems come with a 1 year on-site next day warranty, which means a tech will come to your house within 24 hours in almost all cases (isn't that awesome? :)) You can also upgrade your warranty to "advanced", which protects you against drops, spills, etc.

If you were ever to drop or spill anything on it and the tech couldn't fix it, you'd get a brand new system shipped to you.

AW has THE best warranty in the industry ;)

Edit: You can also upgrade from 1 year up to 4 years, but I recommend only 2-3, since by the 4th year, your laptop will be too outdated. Adding on more warranty also increases the resale value when you want to sell and buy a new system in the future.

The warranty prices are listed on the official AW website, but since I have a Chrome tab open in the configuration section, I'll copy & paste (I still can't decide between the M11R3 and M14 lol) ...

This is quoted from the US AW website.

If you're Canadian they give you a free upgrade to the 4th year if you buy 3 years.

Note that the advanced warranty includes what the basic has and more.

And yes, people have gotten brand new replacements when the technician hasn't been able to fix an AW laptop due to a spill or drop :)

Thank for your infor.. That will be something I need to think about when I grab my Next AW--M14X... but honestly the extended warranty isn't cheap at all it cost about 10% of my AW... (considering 200 dollars for 2 years).. Since most people take good care of their AW... there might not be something necessary. But accident just unavoidable sometime, it might be a good idea to get some extra protection for my investment.

Yup, it's not cheap, however the service is spectacular.

Just to give you an idea, they fixed my hinges in less than 48hrs on my M11X (tech came over to my home).

Compared to Asus, where they took 6 weeks and MSI, where they took 5 weeks (both to fix my laptop), the AW warranty is godly since you get 0 downtime (well, 1-2 days downtime technically speaking :p).
