So I decided it was time to upgrade the hard drive in my MX11R1 . I originally bought it with a 160gig hd. knowing I would upgrade it eventually . So the other day I ordered a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 7200 RPM hd. Installing the hd will be the easy part.

What I'm wondering is , after installing the HD can I just plug in my CD reader & pop in the CD that came with the computer . Will it load Windows 7 from it ? Unfortunately I don't know what's on the disc . I would like to do a fresh install instead of cloning the existing HD.

I've got a lot of experience with building Desktop computers but not much with laptops or Dell/Alienware laptops .

Thanks ahead of time for any responses .

Be sure to use the drivers on the support.dell.com page. Do not use the resource DVD if your system came with one...

Isn't the disc that came with the system a DVD? maybe you need a DVD reader and not a CD reader.
