Ok, I bought an m11x r1 with 5gb (1gb +4gb). Should I invest in 4gb dual channel (2gb +2gb) instead? Which one would be better for gaming?

Dual channel always :) I forgot the details but it provides better performance however dell likes to put different RAM in for odd numbers. (ie: 6gb of ram they put 4+2)

    1 + 4gb is better.

Real life difference between flex mode, single and dual channel is negligible, you are much better off having more RAM. Its normally the CPU bus thats the bottleneck.

flipfire is correct on this, Dual channel makes very very small changes in games.

    +1 for this advice.

Dual channel mode is a nice-to-have. But in the grand scheme of things, the added memory bandwidth of dual-channel mode makes no difference to real-world performance.

BTW, 59 rep is the highest that I've seen on these forums. That's a ridiculously high number!

for as cheap as RAM is these days I wouldnt skip out on dual channel, you need every last ounce of performance that you can get out of this laptop no game will use over 4GB limit anyways. $30 buys you 2x2GB of RAM, and $45 gets you 2x4GB of RAM. For so cheap how can you go wrong? also you can sell your current set to someone else.
