I have an M11X R1 and it appears dirt/dust is trapped behind the screen. The problem just keeps getting worse. I;m not sure how this is happening, how to prevent it, or how to fix it. Anyone have any ideas? Needless to say, this is pretty annoying. The specks in the picture are behind the screen:

    Thanks for the help!

That looks awful, are there any gaps around the bezel?

As Bendak says, there's probably a gap around the bezel letting dust in.

That LCD assembly is a sealed unit, while you can take it apart the LCD screen is double sided taped (strong tape) to the clear cover. I'ts very easy to crack the LCD glass while taking it apart.

If you choose to try it, be very careful.

Oh my god! I'm sitting here looking all around the edges of the screen for any gaps and deciding everything looks secure, when I flip the laptop over. My hinge is in terrible condition - splitting and such - but I never paid it much heed. Turns out, when closed, this is causing a lovely-sized gap to appear on the back on the screen casing.

Is it safe to try to spray compressed air in there to try to blow the dust upward, at least out of my main field of vision? I can't believe I hadn't realized what was happening. In that vein, I'll also need to figure out to fix the hinge. I figured it was just an annoyance.

I suggest that you call DELL immediately and ask for a replacement LCD. The R1's poor hinge quality is a known problem and your case is certainly not isolated - even I have had my hinges replaced, twice!

It took 50 minutes but it turns out, even though my laptop is no longer under warranty, I can ship it to them to have the screen replaced. Thank you so much for your help! I'll be down a computer for a week or two but it will be worth it, I'm sure.
