Any m11x folks going to get this or try it out?
Very large download from steam so you may want to brick and mortar it if you dont have a fast connection.

are spec's on the M11x enough to handle it?
I heard about it but didn't look up requirements -
I ran it fine on beta, it's just an unreal engine game. If you can play stuff like Mass Effect 2 or Global Agenda you'll run it fine.
-
All settings set to max here on an i7 R2. Runs beautifully, even with VSync on. No lag or skipping at all. It looks fantastic.
-
i ant to try it out is it a deemo ? or something or must i buy it ?

Yep, installed and the game looks amazing. Here is my quick report so far...
1. Graphics are great!
2. Game is single player friendly so it's not a popularity contest.
3. Missions are pretty standard, kill this, get that, go here, etc...
4. Story line is usual comic arc.
5. Powers are neat.
So far, So good. I like it but need to play for a while longer before final verdict.

is thre a deemo or something ? -
I'm interested, but how varied are the environments? As much as I like games like InFamous... i don't think i can do an MMO in a city and only a city environment
-
I've been in the beta with the M11x-R1 (SU7300 @1.6 GHz) and it runs very well, it's primarily GPU-bound.
I prefer Champions-Online for multiple reasons, but each to this own; I think the IP aspect of it alone will make it successful for a time. -

Sorry All - I haven't played enough yet to see a bunch of instances. At this point I can tell you I have played on a space station and in the city. That's it so far. I played Champions Online. I haven't played since about 2 months after release of CO. I thought it was ok but got boring fast. I think the graphics on this game are a little more defined. (I think they both use unreal 3 engine correct?).
Hopefully I will get some more time to play later.

Well, all things gaming are a matter of taste right?
DCUO's graphic style is very stylized, and in keeping with their design philosophy lock characters into a fairly narrow range of designs "fitting" the Intellectual Property scheme DC wants to promote. The graphic style in CO while not as "pretty" is designed to allow toons from different comic genres to feel at home. I can make a real anime-style toon, or some kind of sick Frank Miller Sin City guy, they all can be done. DCUO really limits you in this particular regard IMHO, making all toons effectively echoes of their archetypes.
The combat/movement in DCUO is to me very console-like, some people care for it and some don't; I prefer a more MMO-style. Combo moves are nice, but not my thing.
To say the movement is better is again a matter of taste, I never like the feel of the DCUO movement, it felt "slushy" to me and the animations were made to echo the styles of the archetype characters in the game that the IP represents, and just didn't fit the toons I had in mind. CO keeps this aspect again juts generic enough you can feel at home with most designs.
I'm in the beta for Free-To-Play for CO, and it has some good reworks in content, new powers, and even more costume options. My prediction is DCUO will see a constant turnover in play as players make one or two toons, get their pvp-fill, find the options limiting over time, then ditch once they master all the moves like most console gamers do. They'll have a good lifetime for the game as new readers dive in for a time though. CO on the other hand has a core community that is quite civil and allows for a wide variety of styles; its major flaw (and still is to an extent) is content, but they are making some real strides here.
Marvel Universe is the last I hear in development with Gazillion; there's another option....but... pay-to-play is dying quick; all the MMO players know that the game has moved to F2P and buying items, etc online. I suspect DCUO will go this route within a year, maybe two. I'm still waiting for WOW to capitulate, sooner or later they will, but not until they see enough drop off in players. -

Ok.. finally some time to play last night. I am now level 10. I need to choose a iconic power. Haven't done it yet as I wanted to read some posts first as it's a big choice. Game is fun so far. I have done nothing but solo play and no pvp yet. All missions. Graphics are neat. Gameplay is good. It's lots of combo play. For a sorcerer class like me you need buffs and healing.
I really like it so far.
Anyone here on the fence about playing? Anyone thinking about getting the game but not sure?
Best Wishes,

Is it worth the initial retail purchase + monthly fee for mostly solo play?
-
That's ultimately for you to decide. I don't feel that MMOs are worth a monthly fee for mostly solo play. Especially when there's good games like Batman AA, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, the X-Men Legends series, and the Freedom Force series to provide you single player superhero gaming.
Personally I played through the Beta and don't feel that the generic kill or fetch x number of things qualifies as good solo content.
Docsteel and Stevenx have written some good descriptions of the game, but ultimately the decision to pay MMO prices to play a singleplayer game is up to you. -
In the mad rush to score phat lewts by MMO publishers, they seem to be forgetting the one thing that actually is heavily extending WOW's life: intriguing content; I will give DCUO credit insofar as they tried hard to bring the player into the DC Universe...
WOW's 75 million dollar plus development dollars and 5+ years of time in have created a juggernaut that is hard to compete with for drawing players. Just to experience it all takes a LOT of time... and that is revenue. The future looks to be smaller MMOs with paid content, for better or worse. -
I still like Guild Wars and the fact that there are no monthly fees.

I have no problem with subscriptions, but I think $180 per year in subscription fees for the typical MMORPG is just way too high. I wouldn't mind a $60 fee per year, or possibly a model that involves you buying a MMORPG for $50 then optionally buying two $40 "expansions" (used loosely) per year (with all content that would have been updates as part of a subscription fee).
DC Universe Online intrigues me, but $50 and $15/month subscription fees do not. -
how well does this game run on the r1 model? can someone post the fps they are getting?

I was always a fan of City of Heroes. Maybe if I can find a demo or something or see a friend play it, I'll give it a shot.
-
So, the concensus is that even the M11x with the C2D will run DCUO fine? I'm looking for a nice portable laptop to run DCUO and love the look of the M11x...my wallet would definitely love it if the C2D can handle DCUO. The system requirements for DCUO seem like they're very misleading with their listing a minimum of 3.0GHz CPU...I know for a fact that the beta ran just fine on machines without that much power, but I wanna be sure, you know?
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
The 3.0GHz is for a six year-old Pentium 4 processor, which is slower than a 1.3GHz ULV Core 2 Duo, so you're fine. I found MMORPGs to like the extra power of a 1.7GHz overclock, which you can easily enable in the BIOs.
-
Oh, ok. Lol, that actually makes a bit more sense. Thanks for the info!

Anyone else having performance issues with DCUO after updating to the new 266.58 Nvidia drivers? I got well over 30 FPS before, but now it is jerky and 5 FPS or less. It's awful.
I have the NVidia CP set to make DCUO run with the NVidia card, but it sure LOOKS like it is running with the Intel HD one. Suggestions? -
Try Kopicha's 266.44 drivers. They rock for DCUO.
Make sure to do a clean install of the drivers through the custom settings. -
