This is a poll thread, if I get 50+ votes I will dedicate some hours and put together a video either in 720p or 1080p via youtube with docs on how to clean install Alienware M11x along with help tips/hints etc etc

I need enough votes because this can take up half a day even more if I want it done right.

Word. I think if its done professionally I think people including me will watch it. I just hate those videos where they bring up a notepad attempt to type instructions. Whoever started that ... :)

I believe that this would save the community a lot of heart ache. Especially the newer owners. I had to figure it all out for myself when I got my R1 (had yet to discover this site) and it killed me to know that I had to find another means to download drivers because they did not come on the disc provided. It would be a great idea and would be much appreciated.

For the suggestion portion: I would also try to cover the differences in drivers between the R1 and R2 (at least in a document) this way the viewer with an R2 or an R1 doesn't demote the video for not being compatible with their model.

would be a good idea to cover a quick prep of what you need to do before going ahead with a reformat/reinstall like secure erasing for SSDs, disabling overclocking just in case kind of things.

i would like to watch this video as i don't know to much of computers and really don't want to depend on alienware/dell service and talk to a representative on the phone with an accent and hard to understand english voice to guide me in reformatting my m11x again. 8 hour phone call to reformat my m11x...

    i really dread that experience

Do I need a recovery partition or just an USB recovery drive to perform a factory recovery? If it requires the partition how about you include the video on how to transfer the partition from original HD to seagate momentus XT :D

I too would greatly appreciate it if you could produce this.

As I intend to swap the HD for a SSD; going at it from that slant would be helpful as well.

    ~How to re-install/reformat (Full re-instalation/reformate) the m11x
~How to clean the fan without damaging the system
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Maybe:
~How to repair by ourselves the hinge (And how to know what LCD Assembly part do we have)
~How to change the HDD to a SSD
    ~How to upgrade the memory
~How can we improve the Booting/Shutdown of the computer
~How can we keep the computer as fast as possible
    ==========================================================
~How to install AlienFX winamp plugin :D

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course I understand that you will not make a video of all of that topics, but if you can make the first two, it would be great :D.
By the way, congratulations on your new car :)

is there a way to make a new restore partition? because according to dellienware customer service, says i have a currupted partition is why my alien respawn or datasafe will not work, and says only way is for me to clean install each time i want to reformat.

which datasafe worked fine the first time i used it to reformat my system to factory, but on second time trying to use it, nadda does nothing but boots to windows in all 5 methods that the operator told me to do, only boots into windows. even the usb jumpdrive i made with datasafe doesn't work.

for me it would be handy to know if i can make a bootable flash drive using the alienware recovery disk?
I know it says windows 7 ultimate 64bit on the dvd, but is it a full windows disk? if I use this one, can I still make it so I can multi boot cause I'd really like to take advantage of my 500gb drive and install linux and maybe even a mac os...

sorry if its a dumb question but i just dont know...

Nah, don't include anything that don't got anything to do with the subject "Clean Install".

-How to perform a Clean Install of Windows on the M11xR1/R2
-How to install drivers from Dell and Intel, in which order etc...
-How to create a system recovery with AlienRespawn.
-Other tips you can give us on the way with our new fresh installation.

Keep it simple to the subject and include all necessary stuff we need to know to perform a clean install and get it up and running again. And please people, keep your posts to the subject, he didn't tell us that he will show us how to replace stuff or cleaning a fan, have a look at the title of this thread, "Clean Install/Reset".

but wouldnt that make it exact copy? the datasafe doesn't even read the current partition so wouldn't it just read the copy ghost the same way it reads the current? which it wouldn't at all since its a copy of the not working partition?

when i use datasafe everything works fine just as i used it the first time i got the m11, only thing different is when it restarts puter to finish its process it restarts it to the normal windows home screen instead of restarting to the datasafe repair screen. and acts like i never used datasafe. dell operator even did that alien connect to my m11 and he tried re-installing datasafe from his side, nadda, he tried to install alienspawn, nadda. he ended up making me use the cd, and he connected and he finished the driver installs himself 1 by 1 via alien connect. 8 hours later he said
"that is the only way to reformat your computer now since your partition is corrupted. thank your for using dell."

is there a way to take out the partition on my m11 and replace it with a working one? cuz my local pc store has a m11x on display i was going to take my jumpdrive there and make that datasafe usb from that display model m11x.

No, it's not just inserting a DVD, it's also about installing all of the drivers correctly. It's also much about getting the USB connected CD/DVD Drive to work, how to make the DVD boot, since it doesn't on mine.

what i did was at bottom taskbar where the clock and battery icon is, i left clicked it brings up the menu where you pick which powerplan you want, i press "more power options", than pick your plan and press "change plan settings", than press "change advanced power settings" it opens power options window, and under the "Alien FX" tab it lists 2 things "On battery: on/off" and "Plugged in: on/off". apply okay. theres prob a shorter route to this menu but thats what i did and it works for me.

its also in your alienware command center program , "Alien Fusion" first category "Additional Setting" "Alien FX"

although i had mine set as unplugged=off plugged=on but it was tweaky turning on and off each time i plug and unplug, sometimes it worked sometimes it doesn't until i restart. now i made it using the balanced power mode =off no lights, and while on high performance mode =on all lights.
