Using Nvidia GPU and overclocked to 166mhz

I'm getting 100 constant in empty areas and 40-20 during firefights.

    What's wrong...I bought this laptop expecting to get 100 constant. : /

    I have the r2 i7 as well...

Are you sure you are not using the Intel GMA HD and the Nvidia discrete video card? I had the same results in Counter-Strike 1.6 with the Intel GMA HD.

Umm can you walk me through to ensuring I have Nvidia...cause I whitelisted it...I switched to nividia and I get constant 60 instead of constant 100 in empty areas.... if you can get constant 100 throughout tell me plo0x

1.6 is my game of choice, and it runs at 99 fps constantly (with i5 and 4gb of ram)

have you tried like cl_weather 0, cl_minmodels 1, etc? I can paste in my config if that'll help

I agree it seems like it should run at 100fps despite all that, but I've never tried it as I prefer no weather, the same model on everyone, etc., so I don't know if it does for sure.

Other than that, check your running processes for anything taking up too much memory of cpu. I know I can't play 1.6 with firefox open even on my desktop, since it's a CPU hog.

I have tried all fps configs and basically have everything closed. : (
IF someone has a guide or w/e that would be helpful.

Younger brother schooled me... Go to Nvidia options and force vsync off; CS config - fps max 101? I'm averaging 100 fps with 258.96 drivers. Hope this helps..

Put these values in c:\program files\steam\steamappls\<your alias or email>\counterstrike\cstrike\userconfig.cfg:
    cl_cmdrate 101
    cl_updaterate 101
    ex_interp 0
    cl_rate 9999
    cl_weather 0
    cl_minmodels 1
    setinfo "_vgui_menus" 0
#the next two i can't remember what they do, but i have them in my userconfig
    setinfo "_ah" 0
    setinfo dm 0

Those are all the fps and ping relevant commands I saw in my userconfig with a quick scan. I can upload my config.cfg if those don't help.

also try this post, though it shouldn't really help with fps and i didn't need it to get a constant 100fps http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/513360-new-m11xr1-optimization-must-have.html

If your max is 60, it's because you have vertical sync on. You can turn it off in the nVidia Control Panel. Note that turning it off can cause screen tearing (doesn't bother me but does some).

^^ you dont need to do any of those. Make sure your on drivers 258.96. Then make sure you CORRECTLY whitelisted the application. Go to your driver options both nvidia and integrated and turn the power management to PERFORMANCE. Also turn VSYNC off. (this applies to both Crossfire and CS because with vsync on it will only max out on 60 fps).

    just do Cl_cmdrate 101, fps_max 101, cl_upderate 20.

^updaterate 20 is probably too low unless you're on a bad connection or playing on poor quality servers or are one of those people who like to run around pubs interping kids all day (you want it as close to 101 as you can without getting choke/loss because it's, well, the update speed :p--the number of packets per second), but otherwise I agree.

^Lowering updaterate lowers your ping because it means you're sending less packets that contain game information to the server which frees up your connection some more, not because it's actually any faster. In fact, the game itself is slower, since cl_updaterate set at 20 limits it to 20 packets per second. Your ping should really be used as a guide for setting your updaterate, not the other way around (but of course net_graph's info is better at it).

CS Rates, Choke and Loss Explained is a oldie but contains good info about rates. In regard to the relationship between ping and updaterate, it says
(p.s. the info it says about setting ex_interp to .1 is outdated info. You should set it to 0 generally because that sets it based on your updaterate.)

The modded drivers did the trick. Someone really needs to make a guide for what to do when you first get your M11X because some people are REALLY disappointed by the performance and when you tell them to get these drivers they're just like I feel stupid.

Facepalm Dell for not getting on top of this sooner.
