I spent the last 20 minutes searching for end game performance on both units, however the majority of threads/posts are from people who played 10-30 turns.
I'm talking about end game 200-300+ turns (if not more).
How well does the R1 and R2 perform?
I had my eye set and wallet open for an R1 purchase on Tues or Wed, but if the R2 pwns it in performance, I may have to reconsider since I adore that game.

I haven't played the game (only the demo), but I do believe that it will really depend on what settings you play on. If you play on smaller maps with only a few civs then it will probably be okay but if you like to play on huge maps with 8+ civs then there will likely be slowdown. This is only what I would expect would happen but again, I haven't played the game.

However, Civilization 5 is one of the few games (along with Starcraft 2 and GTA4) where game performance is heavily influenced by the CPU. In fact, CPU scaling is nearly linear on Civilization 5... a Core i7 @ 4.0Ghz is almost exactly twice as fast as a Core i7 @ 2.0Ghz. Civilization 5 is the first game I have ever seen since Quake 1 that does this.
From TechSpot.com:
If you are specifically interested in playing a lot of Civ 5, then you will want the M11x R2 Core i7. because it has the most powerful CPU offering on the M11x platform. A stock clocked Core i7 in the M11x R2 is at least 40% faster than an overclocked Core 2 Duo CPU in the M11x R1.
From Anandtech.com:
Once you get the laptop, you will also want to overclock the CPU through the BIOS, and use the ThrottleStop application by UncleWebb to really unlock the performance of the Core i7 CPU.
Hope this helps. -
I played Civ 5. Spent an avg of 5 hours for each match(I believe I played in big continents with 2-3 computers on each continent), idk how many turns. After about 10 matches I uninstalled the game(game feels good at the beginning but towards the end it gets boring, that's why the demo feels awesome cuz they only let u play the beginning lol).
Oh the game is still fairly smooth in endgame. I believe I ran on medium, and a couple on high.. maybe textures.. forgot. -
don't know much about it from a technical standpoint, but from actually playing the game, it runs smooth on the R2, settings set on medium. even tried all settings on high, played it for a month with no problems. however, late in the game, there is a slight lag, especially when the computer is calculating the opponents' moves. used TS, and video card is not OC.
Civilization V (endgame) on the R1 & R2
