Is it ok to use the M15x ac adapter? Plugs are the same size, but different wattage of course. Unfortunately my M11X ac adapter was left somewhere else over the weekend.

    Thanks

I'm sure it'd be fine. But then again I haven't done it so don't take my word for it. I've only done it with apple laptop chargers with different wattage and all I've noticed is the higher the wattage the faster the battery charges. But like I said I've only tried this out with apple laptops.

    Is the voltage the same?
And is the wattage >= the original one for the M11X?
Is the polarity of the Plugs the same?

If the answer is yes to those questions, then it should work fine.

    i think it's 65 watts for the m11x vs 90 watts for the m15x

it's usually these two wattages for chargers.

i'm all for faster charging, but there has to be a disadvantage of continually charging at a higher rate - with rc car nimh batteries the lifespan can be reduced if it's constantly charged like that. lithium polymer atteries can go bang...

Had a similar question as the original post - but mine had to do with Amps. If it is alright with the OP, I would like to add it on here.

The M11x charger uses a 19.5V, 3.34Amp, 65 Watt adapter. The pin/polarity is the same on the two dell adapters.
The only difference is the Amps - 3.34A vs. 4.6A

Will it do any damaget to use a 19.5V, 65 Watt, 4.6 A charger from my other dell laptop ?

Any of the higher wattage Dell adapters will work. I'll double check with engineering to make sure that you won't have any long term problems as a result of using a higher wattage adapter though...

Thanks to all who answered. I'm looking forward tohearing what engineering has to say.

I believe the voltage x the current = wattage.
    So 19.5 x 4.6 = 90W, not 65W.

I have confirmed with our engineering team that using a higher wattage (Dell) adapter shouldn't cause any long term problems or harm to your system. All bets are off if using a non Dell adapter though.

    Hi all -

so just to confirm then- the M11x should be compatible with any existing Dell 19.5v AC adapter as long as it outputs 3.3A or higher? I ask as we have quite a selection of new and old Dells at our office. Inspirons, Latitudes, Vostros, etc some of which have been or are being replaced, but if we can keep and reuse their AC adapters as spares for current systems that would be great.

I had noticed there seems to be a rather picky charging circuit on some units though - a Studio XPS we have will run on AC power with older adapters but will still not charge the battery, even if the wattage is clearly adequate. The minute you replace it with the official adapter, the battery starts charging again.

I certainly hope it doesn't cause issues, I've been using my 130w, 6.7a PS that my Studio 1747 uses to charge my M11x!
